View Full Version : Match Trigger Gets The Job Done

I've enjoyed the match trigger on my .45 Tactical for several years now and decided to have one installed on my USPf 9mm. What a difference the set up makes. I like it better than my 40 LEM with the light spring and much better than my stock USPc .45. Are there any other match trigger lovers out there, or am the lone ranger on this one? I should have done this back when I bought the pistol in '05. The trigger is light, crisp and resets in a heartbeat. It is worth every penny of it. Now if I can do my part cloverleaf groups will be the norm rather than luck with the 9. Still not quite as accurate as my .45 Tac, but close enough for my purposes.

Sorry.. noob here. What's a match trigger?

EDIT: nm here it is! What's a Match Trigger? It is a drop in kit from HK that consist of a trigger w/overtravel stop, trigger return spring, hammer spring, hammer, and sear spring. It will lower the weight of the pull, but the reset is still long. There is now two version of the Match trigger. HK has made a change to the Catch (part 25). The new Match trigger will require the new Catch or it will not work.

But I still don't get it. What do you gain from it?

In single action;
The match trigger reduces the total travel from about 1/2" to less than 3/8".

The normal trigger stacks a bit at the end of the pull, just before it breaks. The match trigger has no stacking, the last 1/8" of pull is glass smooth and very light, with a clean break.

Reset is about 1/4" in the match trigger, roughly the same as normal, but lighter of course.

The match trigger is lighter, at about 3.8 lbs.

In double action the triggers are more similar in pull but the match breaks cleaner, again with no stacking.

The match trigger has an adjustable overtravel stop.

I'll jump in...

I have a 40 TAC, liked the trigger so much that when I bought my 9MM SD, I sent it to HK to have the match trigger installed, before I even shot it. The 9 is at HK now, I can not wait to get it back... like a kid waiting for Christmas.

I have zero history with the LEM or Bill Springfield trigger setups.

I prefer the Match trigger as well, though I just had my full size .40 done with the Combat Competition trigger and I'm liking it over the Match trigger so far. ;)

I'm about to do the same thing, as I just picked up a USP 9 SD and want to get the match trigger installed. I don't know why they put it in the .40 and .45 USP Tacticals but not the USP 9 SD. Which HK do you contact for custom work, Trussville or Columbus?

if I keep my USP, i'd like to get a match trigger too....

where did you guys send the gun off to for the match trigger? and what did it cost you

it would be formy USP .45 btw.

maybe i'd just be better off getting a tactical, altough I don't need a suppresor threading really, or the adjustable sights.... I just want the match trigger

Has anyone swapped in a match trigger themselves, or is it strictly done by H&K?

I watched an HK armorer do the job and personally I wouldn't do it myself... but that's just me. I'm sure there are others out there that would disagree.

Columbus GA

I think the trigger parts are $125, add for labor.
turn around is 3-4 weeks!

I don't know why it is not a factory deal on the 9MM...

Do you have to send the whole gun for the trigger job?

If so, do you have to send it FFL both ways?

I shot a .40 Tac last week, I like the trigger a lot. I have been meaning to do my 45f for a while.

You can ship a gun directly yourself by UPS or Fedex, and have the gun returned directly to you. However, depending on terms with your local FFL, if the FFL is reasonable in fees, you may actually save money by going through your FFL.

Fedex/UPS will cost about $40...compare with what your FFL will charge.

well i have a match trigger ordered but just for practice i have completly taken the trigger assembly hammer sear springs ect out to clean and inspect them it was not very difficult, a small alignment punch and a couple of picks is all you really need.

Everywhere I've looked is out of stock. I'm just going to send it in to HK and let them provide the parts.

Yea, I know the feeling. Everything from Ammo to guns and parts that I go to order is out of stock.

I called HK earlier today and asked about the combat comp setup, and they have match triggers in stock but no LEM kits. The guy quoted $40 labor for both, so I imagine just the match trigger would be less.

The brown truck brought my 9MM SD back home from HK today. I had the match trigger, ambi safety lever and jet funnel installed, picked up a few magazines for the jet funnel too.

I won't be able to shoot till this weekend, so I'll give some feedback then.

Nice, I just did the jet funnel install on my USP 9 SD. I'm definitely going to send mine off to HK for the match trigger, ambi lever, and the target adjustable tactical night sights. I'm suprised they sell mags direct, was the price decent?

Wow does that make a difference. i highly recommend it. like i said before you can do it at home took me about an hour half of which was spent getting that little spring above the trigger just right. but WoW what a difference! Smoother, Cleaner, Breaks lighter just so much better.

If I remeber right the mags were $62/ea. You may find some a little cheaper. I understand there is/was a price increase coming. It wasn't worth buying them from a cheaper vendor since I was paying shipping at HK anyway...
