I've been tossing around the idea for a while about getting a P7M8, but have DREAMED of a Wilson Combat CQB Elite. I'm currently in a financial position to take the plunge on one or the other. I've heard nothing but praise for the P7 line of pistols, and realize they're no longer in production and are getting more expensive and tougher to find. I can't concealed carry as I'm in NJ, so that isn't a factor, but may be in the future.

As for caliber preference, I'm very partial to .45ACP and have been dying to get into the 1911 arena for a while. The Wilson is a beautiful gun, and their craftsmanship is top of the food chain (although from what I hear it wasn't always so). I'm very torn between the two, but eventually I will own both, it's just a matter of time.

So really it boils down to, do I grab a P7M8 now, possibly at an inflated price, or do I bite on the Wilson and pick up the P7M8 when the market calms down a bit?

By the P7M8 and dont look back, If I could keep one gun from my collection it would be my P7M8... Wilson combats are nice but if you want a custom 1911, I would buy a Colt 1911 and send it to Novak you will be spending around the same as you would for a Wilson and get a "True" custom 1911...

Oh jesus...

As much as I love HK guns, I'm a HUGE fan of the 1911 platform.

When I think of the .45 acp, I only think of 1911's. When I think of other calibers such as 9mm or .40, I think HK.

If I had the coin to spend, I think I would buy the Wilson over the P7M8 but that's my personal opinion and I REALLY like the P7's too. I want one myself but if someone put both in front of me, I'd go with the CQB.

I'm not just saying this because this is an H&K forum and I'm drunk on Kool-aid!! I've owned Wilsons, Baers and H&K's among many others.

Tonight as a matter of fact. I'm picking up a P7M8 and P2sk that I traded for a High end 1911 a few months ago. I still have the 1911 but it has become a safe queen as it is too much to carry and too expensive to shoot, too much. I love it but don't need it.

I'm just buying back the H&K's. Hard cash. Paying more than i got but, I know the condition and I know the original owner. ME. I wouldn't do that for a 1911, cause they are more readily available and Kinda all the same. I love them but the idea mentioned above of having one built for you may make more sense from a pride of ownership.

And, as you mentioned, P7M8's are not readilly available and it sure is neat to have AND if you ever have one and make the mistake of getting rid of it....U will be SAD!!

P7M8 is my Vote...

JMHO..

Different guns, different purposes, etc... if it is mainly range duty, the 1911 is a must have. If you think you need the best CCW gun out there, the P7M8 is it. Home defense, the 1911. I have both and wouldn't part with either, but I did jump on picking up a couple more NIB P7M8's while they were still available. fantastic guns, and I feel very comfortable with them as my EDC variety. My super nice 1911's tend to not stay with me as I don't want to bother them too much. My HK's (including the P7M8) don't mind getting bothered. if that makes any sense.

Get your P7M8 now and pick up a 1911 later. The 1911s are thicker than thieves on the market. The P7 isn't, or won't be for long. I personally own just one Colt, I sold off the rest. I won't sell a HK. I like shooting them too much. The Colts never got used much once I started shooting HKs.

I had a similar conundrum regarding the purchase of an HK45 or the Kimber SIS Custom. I purchased the Kimber and have no regrets at all. It may not be quite as smooth as the Wilson Combat but it’s a really tight, great shooting gun. The full size HK45 is still on my want list but I’ve satisfied my lust for a 1911.

Wislon CQB is a terrific 1911. However, they will be producd for years to come. Buy the one that's becoming more scarce is my advice.

+1. What more needs to be said? That's the bottom line. If you want both, get the P7M8 while you can still find them.

My vote: Get two for the price of one.
I ended up getting a P7 and an HK45 for less than a custom 1911. I will probably get a 1911 sometime down the road but they will be available for a long time. After shooting a Nighthawk Predator the HK45 seems to give me about 98% of what the Nighthawk did and I would say it has several advantages over a 1911 as well. I thought that I would regret not waiting and getting the gun I had been dreaming of (1911) but I don't.

I already have the HK45 and absolutley love it, which is exactly why I'm looking at the Wilson, it's the only .45 I can think of that might outstrip my HK45.

I'm going to agree with the prevailing logic here. I'm going to pick up a P7M8 asap, slap some wood grips and a nickel or hard-chrome finish on it and have a day.

I purchased my P7M10 in 1995. I purchased my Wilson Combat Tactical Elite in 2005. Buy your dream gun.

NIB, price was decent, box includes everything. First thing I want to do is get it nickel plated or hard chromed and slap some wood grips on it.

That is one good Lookin P7M8 you picked up!!!!! Congrats! If you are thinking about refinishing in a hard chrome finish I would check out Fords...Below is a link of some pictures of some P7M8's Fords have refinished in Hard Chrome....

I've owned both and if I had to choose one it would be the Wilson. I liked the P7M8 but it wasn't the holy grail as some people seem to think. Not for me anyway. I have no regrets that I sold it. On the other hand, I do regret selling my Wilson.
Back when I bought mine you could get them NIB for under $800. I think it's ridiculous what people are paying for them now, even well used ones. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
If you know for sure that you definitely want a P7M8 then I would suggest you get one now since they're no longer made and I doubt they'll get any cheaper. Of course Wilsons also go up in price as time goes by, so pick your poison!

Took me a while, but I started first with the SIS custom as I knew HK45 would become available readily used, but I don't often see SIS custom for sale.

Why settle? Don't mean to start a semi-custom 1911 war here, but from what I see on his website, Mr Wilson is charging right at $3000 for a CQB Elite in 45acp. For that coin, take $2000 and buy one of these from Mr Baer:

And then take the remaining $1000 and buy one of these from one of the fine gentlemen selling these babies on this forum now and then.

Problem solved. And now you've got the best of both worlds. (You'll find countless threads on the virtues, both good and bad, of Baer, Brown, Wilson, Springer Custom, and Nighthawk. I own one of each of the first four - IMHO, Baer builds the best bang for the buck. YMMV)

Good luck and happy shooting!

I've longed for a P7M8 for about 5 years now and finally bought one and love it. Will be conceal carrying it!

After all's said and done the two P7's will cost you the same as a P7M8
or a Wilson Combat. There's just not that much difference between a NIB P7 and a P7M8. They will both shoot equally well! My 4 in. barrel P7 shoots as well as my 5 in. Kimber. You can buy the 1911's any time, NIB P7's are available now.

Nice job!

Now go buy some nills grips and you'll be set...and they look great with any finish. I love the slight palm swell they have and are on my EDC P7.

Now go buy your 1911...but be careful that bug can really bite. I don't carry my 1911 much - like other have said - the P7 is THE EDC tool...IMO. Be sure to check out Wilson's options. I bought a CQB at a shop NIB and then had it done to my likings...

Congrats!
