Just got my first HK pistol this morning, a usp .40 compact v.1. Haven't shot it yet but will very soon. The only thing I don't like is that the hammer because it doesn't stick out to far so there's not alot to grab onto to cock the weapon. I looked it up and it seems like this one was made sometime in 03, does anyone know if there is any difference between the newer models and this one? also, I noticed on the left side of the grip it says "pat. pend." any idea what this means?

"pat. pend." patent pending.
Read the manual, your safety should serve as decocker as well. continue rotate it after F and it will decock the hammer, this is the right way to do it, don't hold hammer and pull trigger.

Are you trying to cock or decock the gun with the hammer? Either way my question is: why? If you are cocking: a v1 gun is DA/SA so there is never a need to manually cock the gun. If you are decocking then, as was stated, push the safety lever past F.

I understand the decking and safety function. I know that manually cocking the gun is probably never necessary and I think I was a little surprised because my cz also has a decocker but the hammer is easier to pull back. Just being a bit of a whiner I guess. what exactly does patent pending mean? Was 03 the year they modified the usp model or something?

If you are not satisfied with the spurred hammer then get a hammer from a fullsize USP that will allow you to pull the hammer back manually...I have seen it done before on a USPc 45..

Sounds like an good alternative...I believe that my model does not have a spurred hammer though.
