With HKs, always jacketed for the poly-bore.
That being said, short of steel rounds your good to go.
Guys, keep this thread on HK topic & it'll provide some good info.

Range: Federal, Winchester, PMC, Independance, Fiocchi - it eats anything and everything flawlessly.
Defense rounds: Cor-bon, DPX, Speer, Federal Premium, TAP, +P Ranger T's - again, flawless. I prefer the Ranger T's and that's what stays loaded. I'm constantly amazed by how well it manages recoil with the +P Rangers. The Hogue has something to do with that, but not much.
I love my HK45c. While I carry the Kimber, I am most confident with the HK - it's an amazing weapon.

1. Winchester White Box, Georgia Arms' Canned Heat 230gr
2. Federal HST 230gr
3. I had a single squib load from garbage frangible ammo reloads I was forced to use at a range. Worst ammo I've ever seen. No damage to the HK45 and it cleared. No FTF or FTE at all to report, period.

For range ammo I've used Winchester white box, Remington UMC, Blazer, Blazer Brass and Sellier & Bellot.
For SD ammo I've used Golden Sabers, Gold Dots and HST.
All of the above ammo is 230gr.
I buy any of these, depending on which is the best deal at the time.
I haven't had any malfunctions with the HK45 so far. From everything I've heard, there isn't much that these guns won't digest.

A buddy of mine had some 180 gr lightweight target loads he had made up for his alloy framed competition 1911 (don't ask) that didn't work. Other than that, no malfuntions in 14k.

1. Sellier & Bellot 230gr FMJ <- ZERO malfunctions, CLEAN, cheap and good brass for reloads
2. Hornady +P Jacketed Hollow points (custom defense)
3.WWB is DIRTY, have had several FT Fires, not much cheaper than S&B, I stopped using it. Cabela's reloads are better than WWB and usually cheaper, but neither is as good for the $$ as S&B. I just got a factory fresh S&B shipment and the brass is even nicer than before.

In my USPc .45 ACP I have found that lead ammo in small doses is fine. Not over 30 or so rounds at a session. It doesn't hurt the gun and I haven't had any problem with it and accuracy is fine. I know the poly bore shouldn't like it but it does just fine.
As far as practice ammo, I load my own 230 grain hardball RN FMJ and it does fine.
For duty or defense I have used and like in order from first to last:
1. 185 grain Rem Golden Sabre Bonded
2. 185 grain Federal Tactical +P
3. 230 grain Federal hydrashok
All three offer great performance but the accuracy is best on #1 and so forth.

1. Magtech 230 gr FMJ and reloads
2. Remington Golden Saber 185 gr HP and Federal HST +P
Zero Malfunctions
IDPA group member has been shooting:
1. Winchester White box 230 Grain or Magtech 230 Grain
2. Federal Hyd Shock 165g, or 230g
3. ZERO PROBLEMS AT ALL
1. Federal American Eagle 230gr or Remington UMC 230gr
2. Federal HST 230gr+P
3. I had one malfunction with my pistol. The very first round I fired out of it stove-piped; I’ve never any other malfunctions after that first round. I attributed it to the pistol being new. The ammo was Winchester White Box 230gr, Remington UMC 230gr and 185gr, or Federal American Eagle 230gr. I don’t remember which one it was however, as I was shooting all of the previously listed that day.
