View Full Version : P7 won't lock back the slide when using the button

Just got my first P7 from CDNN.
It's in a great condition and is as pleasant to shoot as many have reported here.
One problem or rather question I have is that I cannot lock the slide back with the magazine removed. It sort of catches, when I press the button, but then slides off it. It does lock fine on an empty mag.
Is that normal or is the slide catch worn out?
It's not a big deal, but I am curious.
Would appreciate a feed back.
Thank you

That button IS the take-down button; the slide is supposed to come off when you push it while retracting the slide.
The slide lock is directly behind the trigger. Posting photos here is a PITA I'd rather not deal with, but I'm sure somebody will be along shortly with one.
It IS a bit of a pain to engage, but with a bit of practice you'll have no trouble.

+1 LSP972 on slide lock
Easier if you look at the picture in the manual. The same button/catch is used for silent decocking BTW

I just insert an empty magazine and pull the slide rearward. The follower on the magazine will engage the slide lock.

The slide lock on a P7 is a tab, very small, behind the trigger area under the left grip. It does take some manipulation to manually push it in far enough to completely engage it.
This has nothing to do with silent decocking., which is accomplished by using your weak hand to reach under the cocked P7 and manually push up on the cocking lever latch which is silver and can be seen immediately above the cocking lever behind the trigger guard.

Thank you, everyone.
Wulkyrie - special thanks for the linck to P7 manual.
I do feel stupid - kinda like the guy whom they put "Read the Manual Before Use" on the firearms for.

Nah, don't feel stupid. I did the same thing.
Why...won't...this...stupid...button...lock...the. ..slide...back? And for that matter, how do I get the slide off?
I had to read the manual too, and for the exact same reasons. It's a very unusual design. If you haven't already, wanna see something really cool? Take the grip covers off. The mechanism is a marvel to behold.

VKOTSKY:
You don't need to "feel stupid like the guy the makers put the "Read Manual First" samping on for". The dealers don't care at all who feels stupid nor who reads the manual. The only reason they put that warning on their pistols is to cover their butts in case some legal weasel tries to sue them.
Don't beat up on yourself. Enjoy your pistol!
