I have been thinking about getting an HK pistol for quite some time now, and i finally have the option to get one. I have decided I want to stick to 9mm, because I cant afford to shoot many other calibers. I am looking at the P30L and USP, and I am still undecided. I prefer the looks of the USP, but the P30 looks like it would just melt into my hand. i realize looks arent what is important, but ergonomics, accuracy, and reliability are. I am used to my taurus pt92, but to be honest, it feels slippery and a little large. also, I wear a medium glove if that is of any help. I know that when it comes time to buy, i need to actually hold both in my hand, but I would like some food-for-thought to help aid my decision if i decide to buy. thanks

I couldn't decide either. So I got both.

I have the same problem, kinda.

I bought a USP 45 stainless(used) and now I want a P30 Longslide.

How much is a P30Longslide going to cost me, reckon?

I bought both a USP9 & a P30L in the same week. I shoot the USP better and I like the more blocky look....BUT the P30 grip is very very nice. If I could only have one I would keep the USP. Try em both!

Having fired (and owned) the USP and the P30L, there's no debate for me...P30L all the way. The ergonomics are phenomenal, and the pistol is as reliable as any H&K I've seen or shot. I have almost 2K rounds through mine without so much as a hiccup.

thanks for posting guys! 10mm, which one do you prefer? also, my one question is still un-answered. which one would fit me better with my hand size? is the usp grip larger or smaller than that of a beretta 92/taurus pt92?

also forgot to ask, is there a measurement for determining grip size/ hand? i remember reading that the ideal grip should extend about 1/4 inch below the base plate. that is about where I am with the taurus, but the grip still feels a little too big to control completely.

Same as above, try both. They will perform the same, go with what feels the best.

As to which one will fit you better, probably the P30 if the Beretta feels a little large to you. There is no measurement that will indicate which will fit better. you'll just have to fondle each before deciding. Not sure about what should extend 1/4 inch below the base plate.

P30/P30L, absolutely no contest, it's gonna run you at least an extra benjamin, maybe two, especially if you have some trigger work done...

the P30L only has one available trigger/safety configuration, as opposed to the P30 (now available w/ LEM IIRC), and a the USP (many)... that's the only other issue.

SIG: what i read was that the base of your palm should be about 1/4" below the base plate of the pistol. I think that info is pretty sparse, as I know there are other factors involved. mostly I think my problem with the Beretta 92 size grip is that is feels slippery. controls and everything are where they should be. Thanks for the ideas guys
