Wasn't able to locate a particular thread which dealt with this but please re-direct me if I missed one.

Situation: Got to wondering if the P2000 and USPc had the same frame/slide dimensions and pulled my wife's V2 P2000 9mm apart and put the slide of my USPc .40 on the P2000 frame and put a USPc .40 magazine in the P2000 magazine well. Everything seems to fit and also does so in reverse (the P2000 mag and slide on the USPc frame).

Question: Will either weapon fire safely in this configuration (this is academic on my end, no intention to discharge either weapon in this fashion but curious minds require resolution)

I wouldn't want to be the first to try it on my own gun, I don't know what could/would go wrong, but I don't want to find out either.

I appreciate the clarity of the short answer but am also interested in the mechanical reasoning behind it. Are you able to expound for my benefit?

You are correct that the P2000 and uspc mags are exactly the same. Some newer ones even say P2000/USPc on them.

As far as if the frames and slides are compatible, I don't know. I do not doubt that they are very very similar if not almost the same.

If I were to take a guess I'd look closely at the firing pin block region for more conformation.
