I am pretty set on an hk usp to fulfill my 45 needs but am deciding between these two.

What does the Tactical offer that the baseline USP doesn't?

- the obvious is the threaded barrel. but lets be honest, silencers are illegal to civilians anyway... so this seems a little more tacti-cool than functional.

- O-ring on the barrel, have heard this increases accuracy due to better barrel slide fit. How much is the improvement? i always thought even regular usp's were regarded as "tack-drivers".

- also on the o-ring thing, is it possible to simply put an O-ring barrel on a regular usp? ... or maybe not be cost-effective?

- the trigger on the tactical is somehow better?

i'm just trying to justify the 2-$300 price difference, and the threaded barrel alone doesnt sell me

thanks

Depending on what state you are in, silencers can certainly be legal. It's a common misconception that they are not legal.

Accuracy improvement is minimal on a new gun, but I imagine as the gun wears down a bit the accuracy on a USP-t is sustained better than the USP. But really, I'm talking about 20,000+ rounds, and even then it's probably not much of a difference.

O-rings can't be put on a non-o-ringed barrel. You can buy an aftermarket barrel with an o-ring from Jarvis Custom.

The match trigger is a great upgrade that comes standard on the USP-t 40 and 45. It's much, much better than the standard USP trigger. Weight is the same, but the trigger feel is much better on the match trigger.

IMO, the Tac is worth every penny. Especially if you get the soft case that it comes with.

As Maverick mentioned, suppressors are not illegal everywhere. If it is illegal in your state, you should be able to use a muzzle break that helps to control muzzle flip.

If you have the extra money I would recommend the USP Tactical also! The price difference is definitely worth it. The trigger is amazing (IMO, better than the HK45 trigger thanks to the screw stop). The o-ring does make a difference in accuracy. I stopped shooting my HK45 because I'm enjoying the Tactical so much. The USP .45 Tactical has become my new favorite handgun!

Good luck with your decision!

Having shot both, tactical all the way.. All. The. Way. If you don't need the threaded barrel then go for HK45.

Here is what it boils down to, value for the dollar. If you buy the USP, then go out and shoot the Tactical, or decide you do want a suppressor down the road, and yes, as others mentioned, in most states suppressors are perfectly legal with a little paperwork, then you will want to "upgrade." The Tactical barrel is around $225. Match triggers is $125. Tall, adjustable match sights, $135; 5 extra o-rings, $25. And you will spend a whopping $510 to end up with a clone of the Tactical which would have cost you only $200 more if you had bought the Tactical in the first place. Plus, if you ever sell it, you will never get as much out of the clone as you would the real Tactical.
Since you were under the impression that suppressors were illegal, check state laws because some states like California do not allow threaded barrels, so the Tactical is off the table anyway.

I've got both and the Tactical is worth every dime extra - no question that's the way to go!
(And yes, I believe there is something to be said about Tac-ti-cool!)
