View Full Version : Will TLR2 cause USP 40 full size to jam?

I carry a USP 40 full size as my duty weapon. I Recentely had a part in it break so I sent it to the factory to get fixed. While I was waiting I bought a glock 22 and a tac light to carry. I noticed that with the TLR1 my glock jammed. I replaced the recoil spring and mag springs. That is what I was told to do by Glock. They said that any light 4oz or over can cause the Glock to jam. I got my USP back and was going to buy a TLR-2 and rail adapter for it, to use while I am on duty. Besause of my problems with the glock I am tring to find out if my USP has a weight limit for tac lights. Or if anyone has used the TLR2 on the USP 40 Full size? And if they have had any problems? The TLR2 weighs 4.7oz. I am going with this light because I like the light and is bright, durable, and has a laser. Also because I was able to find a duty holster that meets my departments requirements made by safariland.

I have used them on the Tactical and the Compact. I've never had it cause a problem of any sort other than fitting into the holster.

If I understand correctly, Glocks have this problem because they have do not have a steel subframe underneath the polymer. As a result, they flex quite a bit. HKs most certainly do have a steel subframe, the only way you can make an HK fail is to add weight to the slide. You can add as much as is reasonably possible to the frame and not cause any issues.
But like BigBore said, the issue that may govern what mount/light combination you buy is finding a holster that is available for it.
I've seen much bigger modules from HK than the TLR2. My USP9 w/ TLR2 and GGG rail adapter doesn't jam with or without suppressor.

I'll second the above advice. Glocks are notorious for jamming with a bigger light attached or severe limp wristing. Especially the G22. But as long as you shoot them properly then they're great. HK's normally don't jam with a light or wrist limping. I know my girlfriend has proved USPs don't jam from limp wristing.

Thanks, your info was very helpful. I already found a holster for the TLR-2 that is why I am going with that combo. Limp wristing has never been an issue for me. I thought the jam had to do with the frame but wasn't sure. I don't normally shoot Glocks. I just bought it because it was cheap and reliable at least when it doesn’t have a tactical light on. Most the officers I know shoot Glocks and have a TLR-1 and have never had a problem. Mine was new and had problems as soon as I put the light on. Works great with out the light. Also worked fine with the M3 light which is only 3.7oz, the light just wasn't as bright as the TLR-1 is.
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP.

If you are looking for a duty holster Safariland makes one that fits a TLR-2 and two other lights.
Thanks for the information.

Just keep in mind that not all USP rail adapters are made equal. So make sure you find out what adapter they used to mount the light to and purchase accordingly.
Good luck!
I was wondering what rail adapter you chose? there are some cheap ones, and some good ones... slim too... I had issues with a slim GG&G rail, but eventually got one that fit right.

Is this Glock broken in? I know everyone says Glocks and HKs need no break in period, but I have not had any issues with my Glock 23 with TLR-2 attached. I didn't try it on other Glocks (not sure whether full size vs compact would cause the difference) as I specifically bought the TLR-2 for use with this pistol for bedside gun.

Which adapters do you recommend? I have bought 2 GG&G's for my two USP's but i have not installed them yet. They look the same as the Surefire's but at $50.00 they are almost 50% off.

I bought it new it has about 150 rounds through it now. Glock warranty told me it shouldn't do that. They told me to send it in, they think there might be some tolerance issues on the lower reciever.

GG&G is the rail adapter I am buying. Safariland's holster that I am getting is made for that one.
