I have a chance to buy 250 rds of hirtenberger 9mm 100 gr soft point FL-Bullet Law Enforcement Grade ammo from my local gun store. Is this ammo to hot for my Expert? Lead bullet with steel core. +p+?
Any feedback on this ammo?
Great ammo, used to feed it to my usp9. It is NOT steel core.
I posted specs on HKpro several years ago, I don't know where they keep the old posts these days but that is where you can find the specs.

This ammo is +p+! Can you say hot! I have shot over 2k of this stuff in my 94 when a case of it was 80.00, but I would not shot this through any USP! Now, shooting a clip or two would be okay!

I think you are referring to the 124 grain Hirtenberger SMG ammo that had all the crazy warnings about it. The 100 grain FL +p+ was NEVER $80 bucks a case. And while the 100 grain is hot, its not THAT hot.

i love the 100gr. ive blasted it through the P7 psp when i had it, and boy did that pistol jump!! it'll probably wear out some parts of the usp if its the only stuff you shoot. but a few boxes here and there for fun wont hurt. that ammo is worth saving for a MP5K :D

Right on the money
Hirtenberger 100 gr JSP = 1299 ft/sec ( all within SAAMI)
Hirtenberger 124 gr FMJ ball bullet street name AKA SMG = 1,500 ft/sec (some within SAAMI, some not depending on manufacturing you would have to look at year of manufacturing and head stamp) NOT DEVELOPED FOR MP5. Put hundreds of rounds this ammo through my Beretta Storm CX4.
The hottest 9mm ammo I ever put through my Beretta CX4 storm was Remington Trumph-nose 124 GR +P+ marked police issue only (NOT safe for pistols).
There is allot more to it, however it should work fine in your HK pistol. It will be a little hot.

Umm,
From your manual...
CAUTION: HK firearms are designed to function with quality manufactured brass cased ammunition. Use of steel or aluminum cased cartridges is not recommended and could adversley affect safe and reliable functioning...
NOTE: IN compliance with NIJ Standard-0112.0, currently there are no known ammunition types that meet the general guidelines set forth in this section that are not not compatible with the USP series pistols. All USPs are approved for use with +P and +P+ ammunition as it applies to the specific caliber. The use of +P and +P+ ammunition accelerates wear and reduced the service life on the component parts of any pistol, including the USP series pistols.
Don't tell me that you would even consider operating a firearm without completely reading and understanding the manual??? :390:
