Does anyone use a fanny pack for a P2000? I am looking to get one for when I cannot use a belt holster. I have been looking at the Tommy's Gun Pack and Eagle fanny pack, but would appreciate some thoughts by people who have used them.
Thanks.

For fanny packs in general, this bagmaster is a good choice. They come in various sizes and the larger ones can carry up to a fullsize USP. Your P2000 would be a good fit, but guns with side mounted decockers should be carried with the hammer down. The big benefit this style has over most fanny packs is that it is velcro access from the sides.
This link shows the wide variety of fanny and belt packs that they offer.http://www.bagmaster.com/website/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=56&cat=Fanny+and+Belt+Packs
I got tired of carrying a water bottle on short hikes and bought a Camel Bak Goblin fanny pack. It has 2 compartments, the larger one is for the water bladder. It's blue in color and with the Camel Bak logo, it doesn't look "tactical". It has a large hidden section on the side closest to your body that holds a (included) holster. My USP compact fits if tilted slightly, a j-frame fits with room to spare. Very comfortable to wear, and not too out of place in the Northwest where I live, especially if doing something outdoorsy.
The only thing I don't like is the gun compartment is held closed with velcro, it's noisy when opened.

Do not get the Tommy's gun pack!! Its a complete waste of money. The waistband at its maximum length is made for a 12 year old girl. I have a 34 inch waist and couldnt get the strap fully around my waist. I called and told them about it and they sent another one. The next one they sent was exactly like the first. The best fanny pack i have found is the Kabar TDI. I think you can get it from Cheaperthandirt.com.

You might consider a Wilderness Safepacker instead of a fanny pack. If you use a shoulder strap and don't select a camo color, no one would think it holds a weapon. It looks like a tote bag that might hold a camera and maps.

I have one for a Walther P22 that I strap to a backpack strap. When I've told friends what is is they always say... what..a holster? For a "gun"?
(Now that carry in National Parks in imminent I won't have to sweat it on that part of the Appalachian Trail in Shenandoah NP)

And I like this belt from Wilderness, in coyote and 1.5" width:

Just as a FYI I believe that the NPC bill doesn't come into effect until Feb 2010.

Roger that. Interior has to grind through the Regs process. Anything 12 months or less in the USG would be "imminent" :670: I was surprised there was limited uproar from anti-gunners, probably because the bill was credit card reform to which this provision was attached.

Thanks for passing that along. It's unfortunate that they've decided to save 10 cents on each one by making the strap short. I have one that's several years old and it fits my 36+ waist with about 3 inches more that could be let out. I was going to say it's a good choice, but I'll keep this in mind if I ever want to buy another pack.

You would be surprised how many hiking the AT actually carry protection, and have for many years. ;) Yes, it will be some time before the laws take effect.
The AT is nice, I have hiked just about all of through time, piece at a time through the years.

Eagle Industries fanny packs (both the Weapon Fanny pack, &L/E fanny pack) are the industry standard and you cannot go wrong with them. They are fast to deploy from, comfortable, durable, have a real lifetime warranty that they actually honor, and ambidextrous. I have been using them since they were released and have had nothing but stellar luck. I have also had some terrible ones from other companies. The Eagle stuff is a no brainer.
