View Full Version : Tactical owners help me out...
Has anybody noticed this conflicting info on the HK official site?
According to the HK website, on the main page of the civilian handgun sec, the 40 tac is listed with a barrel lenght of 4.78 while on the spec sec the barrel leght of the 40 is listed as 4.90 inches in lenght yet both the 45 and the 40 have the same overall lenght (8.64)......so my questions are:
Why would the 40 and 45 the same overall lenght if the 40 has a shorter barrel?
What is the "real" lenght of the 40 tac barrel lenght?
thanks for your help

Well the 45ACP cartridge is longer then the 40 S&W. So the difference in barrel length is taken up by the difference in length of the chamber and most likely a slight adjustment of the location of the breech face in the slide.
I have no idea what the actual length is, but I can measure one when I get into the shop in the morning.

As for my second answer I got an answer : 4.90 in. Its listed on the replacement barrel sec of Midway USA. It just peculiar to see the HK website being wrong on one of its sections
So if you put the tac 40 and 45 side to side the slide/threaded barrel will end up being the same lenght?

A bit off topic, but I know H&K finally just launched the new site (the old one said a new one was in the works since 2007) and there are mistakes in it. As far as the barrel/overall lengths I am not sure if they are correct or not, but in the list of all the pistols it states the HK45c is chambered for 9mm x19. For the most part it seems like the values were just copied and pasted from the old site which probably didn't have much upkeep since they were working on the new one. So for right now, all the information on the site may not be 100% accurate.

From my understanding... the USP TAC40 and USP9SD are relatively the same size...
The TAC45 is about .25" longer and taller than either of those... with about 1/5 of a pound added on in weight with no magazine.
I think alot of the reason these measurements get so messed up are all the different options that come with USP's like extended baseplates/Tall Sights/Hammer cocked/uncocked/etc. When they are conducting these measurements they should be using different caliber guns all outfitted the same but i dont believe they really do this. Just looking through the 2008 Civilian catalog i see all kinds of errors in measurement. I dont understand how HK can just blind eye all this important information. i mean how does a USP45CT boast a taller stature than a full size Tac40 and 9SD? it also says the CT is 1.72lbs/!38oz! and a 9SD is 1.76lbs/!28oz!.. Makes no sense to me. But i dont think they really care... they continue to make their sales and thats all that matters. That is what all customer service is coming down to.. Ridiculous!
The 45 is definately a bit bigger tho.. with a 5.09" barrel
The Tac40 has a 4.90" barrel
Someone correct me if im wrong.
HK should give me the job to measure 3x, think 2x! At least i know Standard vs. Metric.
Just boggles my mind too.
