I just got back from the NRA in Phoenix. "AWESOME" I went directly to the HK booth. Once I got past all the peeps looking at the MP5's and what not, I noticed instantly something very strange on the demo HK45 that was sitting there sadly not getting any attention.. The HK45 on display had Meprolight night sights!! I almost fell over with excitement. YEAHHHHH!!! I felt like buying beers for 10,000 other NRA members. I love my hk45 but the original sights were not cutting it. And what could I do but wait? I have been searching HKpro for months trying to find concrete answers about real night sights from one of the big guys... Not only did the HK rep confirm they are coming in 30 days from Sunday may 17th 2009.. Fellas, I saw them with my own two eyes! They look great. HK rep told me I can buy them in 30 days direct from Meprolight or from HK! 30 days and counting!! I cant post the picture for some reason? But trust me these new sights dress the gun up something nice!

Heres the kicker. The guys at the booth seemed like they were surprised I was even that interested and excited? I was like "sir this is amazing news"!!

Thanks for the heads up! So basically the Mepros always stay illuminated? When illuminated are they brighter than the night sights that currently come with the HK 45 when it is at its full brightness?

That's awesome! Any word on an HK45 Tactical or other news while you were at the HK booth?

The Mepros are usually lighter than the fully charged stock luminovas. Its a tradeoff between brightness and longevity.

Also the front sight will glow even if covered by a holster for hours as it would be if you carry it. This is good news for LE.

Are they taller than the origionals? Tall enough to see over a can?

That's great news. The trijicon night sights are also available right now, and can be ordered directly from their web site. So there are increasingly more options.

I'm curious about this too. Does anyone if the Heine night sights will clear a suppressor on the HK45?

To clarify the factory sights on my HK45 are the green Luminescent Paint. If you grab the gun out of you safe at 3:00 am with no lights on, the sights will be non-existant. Luminescent paint needs to be hit with a flashlight or the sun. The brightness levels can go WAY up and then WAY down. Nothing consistent. My factory Luminescent Painted sights look like a scratch and sniff surface..(too me anyway).

The Meprolight Tru Dots last around 10 years with a consistent lighting situation. You need zero light to make them glow. The Tritium inside the sights is a radioactive form of hydrogen. It's my understanding only a few maufactures can even offer this type of service (Trijicon and Meprolight) that I know of..

I have the Meprolight Tru dots on my P2000 and they are awesome! I cant wait to get them on my HK45.

And now I hear Trijicon.. Thats great news as well! I would probably go Meprolight. Only because Israeli's know a thing or two about self defense.

The Meprolights I saw at the NRA look very very similar in size to the factory HK45 sights. Having never owned a can I could not give any more advice or opinion.

I wish I could post my picture for you guys. Its not the best picture (taken on my iPhone) but it clearly shows how nice and bright white they are when the lights are on. I covered them with my hands to make them dark and they were a nice bright green.

Can a admin tell me how to post pictures?

Did the Meps on the demo gun at least have a cocking shoulder? I'm LE and need a shoulder on the sights. I like the streamlined appearance of the factory sights, but I don't want to have to rely on jamming the front sight onto something to rack the slide if I ever (god-forbid) needed to cause I took a hit in the arm. I gave the Luminovas an honest try, at first I liked being able to have the ability to charge the sights specifically for whatever I was doing, building searches, felony vehicle stops, etc... But now I work nights and its a pain in the @$$ trying to keep them charged all the time; since I never know when I could have to jump outta my patrol car and use my sidearm. That little voice in the back of my head screaming "I don't have tritium night sights" is driving me nutz!!!

Yes. I wasn't at the NRA Show but assuming the Meprolight sights on display are the same ones HK sent me for my P30:

Good to know there are more sights available for the newer pistols, but I don't know how I like the blocky look of them on that P30. The profile should be slightly ramped like the Heinie sights or any Novak-style 1911 sight. I love my Meprolight sights that came on my P2000sk, but I think I'd have to go with the Heinie Straight-8 night sights if I had a P30, HK45, or HK45c.

Those blocky sights are just the ticket when it comes to buffing up on your one handed reloads and other drills. Always seemed strange that folks can imagine the possibility to need a weapon (worse case scenario) and believe they will have two hands and 100% of their faculties (best case scenario). Not meant to offend just food for thought. I like the looks of the factory HK45 sights but prefer the functionality of the "shelf" on the front of the rear sight.

+1 STW... Seems like the Mep sights have what looks like an angled groove on the front of the rear sight to hook onto whatever to rack the slide. I tried a few drills with the front sight on the back of my holster and let’s just put it this way, I wouldn't stake my life on that working if the $#!T ever hit the fan. It's pretty wonky, requires a lot of motor skill, and I would probably stand a better chance of putting a round through my own leg instead of the BG! I was thinking about the XS sights but have not seen a close up pic of them to know whether or not they have a shoulder.

Thanks for the pic ToddG! Looks like those may be the sights I'm gonna get for my Hk45.

Simple question...

Do the HK45 Trijicon sights have the white outer ring.... and are these the only ones that have this feature?

MOSKIMOJO

The meprolights I saw had a very VERY nice outer white ring. I do not know about trijicons.

Yes, the Trijicons have the outer white line, and I can't answer the second part if they are the only ones that do. They do look like the originals.

I use this old thread becaus it is the same topic.

Are the meprolight or trijicon sights for the P30 yet availilable in US online shops or ebay? I couldn't find them when I was looking in several shops. Could you please help me. It would be also an advantage if the shop would ship to Europe, otherwise a friend of mine must send it to me.

In Germany there are big difficulties wits Tritium because of the "dangereous" radioacticity of the sight or something.

Thanks.

You don't need zero light to make them glow. Not at all. If they're anything at all like the numerous tritium sights I've had in the past, they will glow quite well in dim light.

Harrydog, I believe we are both saying the same thing. I was comparing tritium to the original hk45 "night sights" (paint that glows?) which require an external light source to get them bright, compared to the tritium which require zero (they glow without the sun or a flashlight). Obviously the tritium would glow in dim light I figured that was an obvious point. But I do believe we are saying the same thing.

I see the nice white outer rings... are really visible.. even in these pics...
These should work nicely on bright daylight... (my local range is outdoors)
