I have a P7M8 and like the "no tools" removal. I can't seem to find the thread on replacing the P7 FP bushing with the M8 version. Do I just buy the FP bushing, remove the firing pin and springs from the older recessed bushing and they interchange? Is there any trick to removing the fp from the bushing? It looks like it just twists sideways and out. Thanks in advance for the help.

It is easy. Obviously... first unload the pistol. ;)
Partially depress the squeeze cocker and insert the bushing removal tool into the groove. Then rotate about a half turn and the bushing will pop out. Remove it from the slide and then rotate the FP so it's "wing" is aligned with the channel in the FP bushing and slide it out.
I am using a PSP bushing in my M8 and see no reason why you couldn't use a M8 one in the PSP.
M8 bushings are going for about $90 these days though. Both Midway and Numrich had them in stock last time I checked.

The firing pin bushings are swappable completely between pistols. The only thing about putting the P7-M8 bushing in the P7 is that the pistol will no longer fit in the hard plastic case.
I did this to my P7, even having Ford's HC the new FPB and it is a nice little conversion. Midway can get you the FPB or you can get it from HK. I think I paid $65 from Midway but that was dealer pricing so expect about $20 for their normal price.

Thanks guys. I figured it would be easy, but I didn't want to get lulled into a hidden trap. Midway has them for about 100 bucks once you get the cheapest shipping (UPS). Ouch.

Does the bushing include the pin and spring when purchased?

Nope. :)
I love my HK's, but there ain't nothing cheap (low price) about them.

I can't explain it, but I just think the M8 version is very cool and potentially very useful. I don't know if its worth 100 bucks, but the mags for it weren't worth 65 dollars either. Unless of course, I didn't have them and then they would be worth every penny. I am not sure but it seems like the entire assembly consists of the bushing, firing pin, and two separate springs, plus that collar and pin at the business end. If you had to replace the entire firing pin assembly, it might be cheaper to just buy a refurb.

Dealer price is now up to $73.99. If you have a friend with an C&R FFL he can set up an account with Midway (free by the way) and get the dealer pricing. For a $30 three year C&R FFL license it sure pays for itself dozens of times over. You save almost enough on the FPB alone to pay for the C&R license for three years.
Is the P7-M8 FPB worth it, I don't know. It is to me and I don't even have in the pistol since I store it in the hard case. But if I shot the pistol a lot and I'd have it in there. It sure is nice to not need a tool to remove the FPB to clean the assembly.

How do you like that M8 Pete?

I can't keep my hands off it. I have to work this weekend so next weekend is going to be my range day. I like it so much, I just picked up a P7 also. Thanks again.

I don't find the PSP bushing to be a major issue, not enough at least to drop $85 or so to replace it. I enjoy shooting both my P7PSP and P7M8. Both are fine pistols. Since I don't rapid fire multiple mags in the first place the heat shield on the M8 doesn't make a difference to me. Unless you're competing with a P7 there's no need to burn through the ammo during routine range days. I take my time and enjoy the pistols for the fine piece of engineering they are.

I absolutely agree w/ Shakey about replacing the PSP FP bushing: you have to use the takedown tool to remove the grip panels anyway. Additionally you do not need to clean the FP assembly until after at least hundreds of rounds. It is not something that you need to do frequently and rapidly (like clearing a jam in a gunfight).
I honestly think this trigger guard heating issue is way over-exaggerated. I rapid fired four magazines and the trigger guard is only MILDLY warm. Put 75 rounds through slow fire and could not feel any heat. By the time you drop your pistol like a hot potato, you are either dead or the gunfight is over.

One thing that has always fascinated me about firearms is the engineering behind the designs. You can argue if the heel clip is an improvement or not, the heat shield is necessary, etc. The design of the bushing on the M models though is truly well thought out. It functions the same without the need for any tools. If the original design had included this feature we wouldn't be having this discussion because no one would ask for the recessed version that requires the use of a spanner. In addition to cleaning, I do like the idea of instantly rendering the weapon safe. Will I use this feature instead of my gun safe? Probably not, but I like options.

I'm glad! I knew you would like it. I sure hated to see that one go!
