Just had the first opportunity this afternoon to put a few rounds down the barrel of my new 45C.

The gun was very accurate, and comfortable to shoot.

Once issue though. I put 200 rounds down the barrel. a box of Federal hydrashock, a box of speer gold dot, and 2 boxes of magtech ball ammo.....

Even after 200 rounds the slide was not locking open after the last round.

None of the ammo was +P, but I don't imagine any of it to be light either. all 230 grain if I remember correctly.

I assumed that this was just because the gun was new, and needed a little break in. 200 rounds seemed excessive though.

after the last round was fired and the slide closed, it always locked open if I manually pulled the slide back before removing the magazine.

Am I correctly assuming that this is a break in issue? Or should I be investigating a mechanical issue?

Thanks!

99% of the time on these pistols is that your thumb is accidentally hitting the slide release lever after each shot. Try being mindful of your thumb or messing around with different grips to try to see if this is actually the problem.

With the newer H&K's the slide release lever is far enough back that alot of people have this problem.

You're quicker than I am!

I was just cleaning the gun, and looking it over, thinking to myself..... I wonder if I was placing my thumb on top of that slide release and preventing it from popping up.

Won't know 'till the next time I shoot it, but I would bet you are correct, my thumb was preventing the slide release from popping up.

Thanks for the very quick response!

+1 I think the slide release does more problems than good. I took mine to a gunsmith and had it shaved down.
