Hi all,
I just got a used P2000 9mm w/ LEM and standard sight from my brother-in-law and have a question on the sights. My wife, friend, and I all hit low and to the left with this gun. I have found that if instead of using a 6 o'clock hold I cover the target then I am dead on at 25 yards. Are all HK sights this way as I have only ever shot Glock, Sig, Kimber, S&W, Ruger, and a few others before? I have probably a total of ~5K rounds of centerfire handgun experience so I'm not exactly new I just haven't encountered this before.
Also as to it hitting left ~2" at 10 yds and 5" at 25 yards is there a way for me to safely drift the rear sight (to the right correct to get point of impact to go right?) so that I can get it on target or should I just wait and make sure the night sights are adjusted correctly when I get them? I am going with Meprolights.
Otherwise I LOVE this gun and wish I would have gotten one a long time ago. It is an AC date code w/ ~600 rds fired now and no mag disconnect but only has 10rd mags :( I am trying to rectify that right now.

Pretty confident in saying this is a common problem with most people and HK's, myself also. The front sight should cover the target, not holding under at 6 o'clock. Just practice and pull the trigger a little slower so you can try and catch yourself flinch right before the hammer drops. It helped me after a few times to the range. You can also practice with snap caps. Good luck working it out, congrads on the HK.

Ditto. The bullet should hit behind the dot. Don't like it? Tough, at least that is HK-Germany's attitude. I don't like that hold either so I switch my sights out to MMC adjustable; that way I can sight the way I want to sight, not the way some pencil pusher in Germany wants.
The left is also common. Use the following chart to correct and get some snap caps and practice dry-firing.

Yes, the OEM white-dot sights are set to hit behind the front dot, so that accounts for the "low" part of your problem. . . you can order a lower front-sight from HK for about $15 which will correct this (I had the same issue with my USPc 9mm. It took me about 10 minutes to fix.). The "left" part of your problem is trigger control/flinching, and is VERY, VERY common among new HK shooters due to the difficult HK triggers (you don't need to drift).
If you are getting Meprolight TruDot night-sights, then wait and see how they impact, since my USPc 45 (which came with Meprolight TruDot night-sights) hits at the top-edge of the front sight instead of behind the dot (unlike my USPc 9mm with white dots did).

Thanks all for the responses. I will print off the target and give that a shot on correcting my left of target issues. I am wondering if trying the XL backstrap will help as I have really large hands but my wife can only use the LG backstrap as the XL is too big but I will swap them out and try that as well. I will just use the over the target hold until I get the Meps and see if that changes anything. I still like this gun way more than my Glocks or Kimber. The Kimber is in danger of being replaced by an HK45.

I went out and shot a couple hundred rounds this weekend through it and am still left but only about 2-3" at 20 yards most times(the last 20rds I fired were bad but there was a 20mph wind so I am hesitant to say I just forgot how to shoot based upon them). I think it is me but I just can't seem to correct it completely. I still hit center with my Glock so I find it strange. I also noticed I hit more centered when I practice double taps which I wonder if it's because I am not thinking about it. It may just be a head game with this gun. I tried the XL backstrap and it feels better buy my wife in no way can shoot it with that on there so it is a no go. I wear 2XL gloves so have long fingers. I wonder if maybe bringing my hand around more to the left side of the gun when firing will help. I am resting the right edge of the trigger on the crease for my first joint on my trigger finger(right handed) so that little chart above suggests not enough finger through but I don't believe that exactly. I also wonder if it may be because I have to hold out my thumb from the frame or I hit it with my trigger finger. Would high thumbs be a good position to try? I have never used that before.
I have about 500 rds through it now without a single malfunction so I am quite happy with that.

I ended up buying a Meprolight USIT to install my sights and got them installed. My Dad, brother, and I all still were shooting left at 10-12yds. We were all getting honest 1 1/2" groups but they were to the left.
We all found out if we held the gun so the front sight took up all the light to the right of the rear sight that we hit dead center so I pushed it over just a smidge(maybe 1/32" to the right) and we all hit center now out to 25yds.
It is kind of annoying to see the sight not in the center of the slide but it shoots now where it is aimed so I guess that is all that matters. It is crazy accurate.
Is there a chance it is just off or do you guys think we are all shooting it incorrectly? I also put sights on my G19 and they are .009" according to my caliper more to the right than the left (I didn't feel like pushing them left for that amount of offset) but it hits dead center and worked great at 25yds at the local match this weekend.

All of you try shooting it lefty and you will find out.

Hmm, that's a thought. Wish I'd thought of that. I'll try that this weekend. Thanks.
