After trying so hard to be smart and reasonable and practical - went on-line and bought NIB Mark 23 on GB. Don't take me wrong, love how Usp 45 tac feels and looks, understand all the points and agree with all the arguments that it is a much smarter choice, but still could not resist the appeal of the 23.
I actually went to a gun store to buy one today, fondled it again and walked out without making the purchase. Mainly because once again am turned off by total incompetence and the lack of understanding of basic concepts of negotiation by the sales staff. This is Davi's gun shop in Raleigh, by the way. Apart from ridiculously high prices, 3 different clerks gave me BS on 3 different occasions (e.g. “Mark 23 has a 4” barrel” )…. I digress.
So, just spent the money I don’t have and do not regret it a single bit (that is till my wife finds out). Will buy the USP45T one day too.
Now have to sell my custom 1911 Colt .45 (beautiful pistol with major upgrades, but totally a safe queen). I don’t even think I will regret selling it. Now have to stock up on patience - the waiting has started.

A Local (great) dealer has a shiny new Mk 23 sitting in his case for an excellent price. I have been by to visit several times.

It is calling my name.

However, I am still getting to know my USP T45. I am making several trips a week to the range for fine tuning and benching. The Hogue Handall grips I put on yesterday are WONDERFUL!

It is only a matter of time before I succumb to the HK side of the force! (once again)

You know what they say: Its easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to ask permission!!

Congrats on the 23. I think its one of the great guns that people, especially outside HK fan clubs, don't understand until they handle, shoot, or own one. It is a fantastic firearm.

JPKII is right, beg for forgiveness and head to the range and enjoy. You only live once and you can`t take it with you.

Congrats! I almost did the same thing when BigBore put his on the FS forum the other day. I really can't justify a MK23 at all since I already have 6 HK's that shoot 45 but damn if I don't want one just the same!
Where's the pics???!!!

Where's the pics???!!!"I've always wanted a [insert firearm] but I've never been able to justify it because I own a [insert similar firearm]."

We've all read the above statement dozens of times, and I'm vexed. I could understand, "I've always wanted a [insert firearm] but I already have a [insert similar firearm], and can't afford both." That would make sense to me. Yes, guns are a tool, a weapon, but not JUST a tool and weapon. They're also fun: fun to own, fun to fondle, fun to talk about, fun to compare, fun to show off, and most of all, FUN TO BLAST AWAY WITH AT STUFF!.

Why is justification beyond just, "wanting it", necessary?

I'm not at all suprised to hear what you have to say about Davi's. Send me a PM or an email about your 1911 (orfeo1@aol.com).

Actually the lower arrangement is Phase I "OHWS" prototype (LAM, suppressor and handgun - note the slide lock within the trigger guard).

The upper set-up is full series production "MK23 MOD 0" as issued to the Navy.

PLUS, If John conner can carry one as his side arm to fight terminators then It must be a amazing weapon. I really want one but I no one will carry one in their store, so I would have to blind order one. Like the P30 I am ordering next month.

I agree, I just got my Mark 23 in February, no 'actual' reasons, just because I wanted it. For all the practical aspects a USP-T would have sufficed, but Ive wanted a 23 for the longest time ( 7-8 years now...) so I got it. I still grin when I pick it up, and with the KAC suppressor on the way, and 20 round USP pro-mags trimmed to fit the 23, I think anyone who see's it will grin, even if they dont know what it is. Thats what recreational shooting is about, having fun.

But just because its a toy doesnt mean its not at the ready with 185 corbon +p JHPs at home though ;)

I know exactly what you mean.
Have walked away from Mark 23 twice in two weeks and ended up buying one on-line.
Once I shot it I understood instantly what all the raving by the fans was all about.
Those who never owned or at least shot one are the people looking for the "negatives" : too pricy, too big, over engineered etc.
Couldn’t care less, this pistol is great to shoot, has my 110% confidence and just plain fun.

Sounds like glock owners :p "It has 3 safetys, we dont need a grip safety or thumb safety" But they wont carry it condition one in a backpack, center console or pocket without some goofy addon like this

I'll just flick my thumb safety on, or carry with the hammer down, thank you very much. Not just the Mk23, any variant USP or HK pistol Or Sigs, or double action revolvers, or 1911's... :p

???

look what I bolded in his post...

"Too big, too pricy, too overengineered" I always see glock owners/fanboys complaining about stuff like grip safetys on XD's thumb safetys on everything because of added complexity etc... (over engineered) and price is a usual topic to... (too pricy)

but then I was just ranting more about dumb owners who wouldnt need a special holster for their backpacks and center consoles if they got a real handgun ;)

I guess Plaxo Burris would know about carrying a loaded Glock in his pocket, wouldn't he?

Welcome to the club! You're going to love it. I'm sure you already do. My MK23 was my first HK, and as you can see in my sig, I fell victim to the bug. No regrets. :)
