View Full Version : USP45F – current resale value and should I sell it?

Seems like there's a scarcity of pre-owned USP45F's out there right now, so I've had a difficult time determining what the market will bear for them. So ... the question is, how would you value a blemish free, AD date coded USP45F with 1,749 rounds down the pipe? The gun shows remarkably little wear on the barrel/hood (nor anywhere else, for that matter) that one would expect from normal use.
I'm a little undecided on whether or not I want to sell it, but to be honest, since picking up a M&P 45, the grip size/trigger reach issues I've had have been exacerbated to the point where I don't know if it will ever see much use again. For what it's worth, this was also the first handgun I ever purchased, so I'm curious to know what people think about whether or not I might regret selling it later, if that's the direction I decide to go.
Any and all input is welcome.

I suspect that you would end up regretting the sale of it. Could take years, could be months but I reckon it would happen. Personally I would not pay a penny over $700 (on a good day) for a 'standard' USP with that sort of round count, regardless of calibre.

+1, you could start at $700 and go from there.
$550--$650
A while back I bought a gently used USPF .45 (600 rounds on it) for $530
Then I put $200 into it for Tripp Cobra Chrome on the slide/barrel/slide stop/Meprolight night sights(orange rear/green front)/DecalGrips
Flash washed the color out a bit, its a very soft dull gray thats non-reflective.
I just prefer a hammer over striker fired, plus the USP is over built in every area, especially the slide.

I would keep it esp. since it is an older one that has the roll marked logo in the slide and the logo on the grip.

David,
While I'm sure the M&P 45 is a very good pistol, there is no way it could ever be considered a replacement for a USP 45. The durability and reliability of a USP 45 is unsurpassed in anything other than an HK Mark 23.
If you replaced it with an M&P 45 because of ergonomics than the only option that makes sense in my mind is to sell both pistols and buy an HK45. The grips on the HK45 and the P30 are the most comfortable grips I've ever had my hands on, even more comfortable than my Sig P229 40. The magazine capacity is 2 rounds less than the USP but it is the same as the M&P. Like someone else posted earlier, I much prefer a hammer fired pistol than a striker fired pistol to defend my life with.
I don't think you are going to get anywhere near $700 for a used USP but you can try. Whatever you get if you sell both of them you should easily be able to purchase an HK45, 4 extra mags, and Wolff mag springs(if they make them for the HK45 yet).
Just my $.02:92:

Just out of curiosity, (which happened to kill a cat) what is wrong with a striker fired gun?

Just looked at a local gun shop yesterday, a sandard USPf .45 is going for a little over $900 new, with only 1 avaliable. NO used ones. Consider if you do ever want to replace it, what it would cost to get another one.
I have 2 HK45s and will not part with my USPf .45 or USPc .45

They're high,
CDNN has them for under $750 last I checked, and last one I saw in a shop was under $800 + tax.

About 6-9 months ago I picked up a new USP SD from Clyde's for $730. I doubt price has gone up that much since then. Some gun stores like Gander Mountain want to charge that much for used guns, but with all the options available now on the net I wouldn't pay anything over $600 for a used USP...for what it's worth.

My first gun purchase was a usp 45f. That will be the last gun I get rid of. It's to good of a gun. My next purchase will be a hk45c.

One thing is for sure, if I were you, I would NOT sell it (unless you want to sell it to me ;) )
I believe these Hk pistols is one of those things in life (like real muscle cars were and are now), where you regret endlessly your decision to sell it. I'd say, keep the USPf .45.

For what it's worth to ya. . . I sold my mint condition, like-new-in-box USPc 9mm for $500 the end of last year.

Hey Colt 45 ws,
I am not knocking striker fired pistols, I was just stating my personal opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of reliable striker fired pistols being used to defend lives with (HK P 7, Glock, S & W, Springfield, etc...), but my preference happens to be hammer fired pistols.

I haven't been on these boards for a long time but one thing remains the same. I won't part with mine and if I were you I would keep it. It's just too good a pistol to get rid of. Like the other guy said they're like classic muscle cars. I believe you'll regret it in the end.
Unless your in a financial situation that would warrent giving up some of your toys, I would keep it. I like the muscle car analogy. No matter what advancements HK has/will make in their handgun lineup, the USP will always be a timeless classic IMO. Besides, it was your first handgun purchase.

If you have to sell it--sell it. If you don't--don't. I had a friend of mine, who loves my USPf .45 almost as much as me, offer to by it, so I could off set the cost of an HK45. How ever tempting that may be, I can not sell it--it is awsome! I do want the HK45 very much; I'll just have to have both. As for its value, If you have to sell it, then you are going to have to take what you get. If you are just selling it, I would not take under $600, but you will regret it.

Thanks for the enlightened responses, guys.
To summarize what I've been reading, it seems there's consensus that I should hang on to it, and considering that I don't have a clear and compelling reason to get rid of it, I think I'll hang on to the 'ole brick (please don't take that seriously anyone). It's just too bad it that it's more or less not going to get much use at this point—wish somebody was doing grip reductions—I think that would be the ticket.
