now that hk has wilcox producing the hk45/45c, think hk would license anyone to do a p7/m8/m13? with the following changes/upgrades:

recoil vs. gas operated (hopefully to keep the heat down in rapid fire! and easier maintenance/cleaning)
a longer slide competiton version
domestic production to hopefully keep a lower price
picatinny rail
novak style or dovetailed sights
different calibers available due to being recoil operated
polymer frame maybe?

thoughts?

I think that some of those things would take away many of the advantages of the P7. Switching to recoil operated would mean some type of locking system, thus taking away from the low bore axis more than likely. I personally wouldn't want a picatinny rail on a P7.

But, of course, IMHO.

But, of course, IMHO.I share your opinion, it would be a totally different gun. I also prefer no rail. That said, for me, low bore axis isn't that much of a positive attribute. I have done side-by-side comparisons between my G22 (low) and my USP40f (high), and I realize no advantage with the G22. Observers from the side see no difference in muzzle flip.

I know what you mean. My Ruger P95DC is the softest shooting 9mm that I own. I just got a Sig P226 Navy and I'm going to try all three of them out to see which is better for me.

But when it comes to CCW I love carrying the P7.

Sounds like you're asking for a squeeze cocked P30L. :D

But it wouldn't be a P7-Mx any more. Why bother?

maybe a hybrid gas/piston system. something to keep it from generating so much heat. or a polymer frame.

Majette:
May I suggest you simply look for a new pistol? The changes you want would be changing an apple into an orange. AviatorDave has it about right.

I would keep it just how it is, but with an aluminum frame to keep the weight down. I'd carry one if they weren't so darn heavy.

But when it comes to CCW I love carrying the P7.I have several P226's, old, new, and all steel, they're excellent. I've never heard anything but good about the Ruger. For the price, they're hard to beat. Totally agree about the P7.

If it ain't broke, why fix it? To deal with the heat, I bought multiple versions, so they all get their turn at the range.

I have only had heat issues with the M13 while doing 6 -7 mags back to back rapid fire. Never did manage to heat up a M8 to the point of not being able to shoot anymore.

That would turn the heat issue from an minor annoyance into a serious problem. It would turn the frame into a far more effective heat-sink, which would not be good.

Rails are for tactical sidearms or night-stand pistols IMHO. The P7 is a refined, sophisticated concealed-carry pistol. It is what it is and it does what it does very well. A long slide M13 for competition would be sweet though, but I don't think we will ever see a mass-produced P7 ever again. : (
