This is just a proto the bottem edges will be radiuses and they will have .45 engrave on them

Sorry about the polishing I thought it would look good but it just made it hard to photograph.

So what do you all think?

After we finsh the design we will get some hard anodize black then test them to see how they hold up.

What are the chances of expanding the project to include other HKs? I like the idea of some flat ones for the P2000. Also, nice work!

This latest batch is a big improvement even over the first few; the shape seems to follow the frame perfectly now.

You know....I think it would be cool if you put "MK23" insted of .45 on the base plate. What does everyone else think? I'll still take 30 floor plates and 30 followers when you make them. I'll even take some 45F USP base plates.

psg1
01-30-2005, 05:38 AM
this thread got me thinking... i'd really like to get a few of these for my usp40f, but i'd also like them to tie in with something else on my pistol...

what i mean by this is, i think these metal baseplates (brushed chrome-like finish in particular) would look really good with a jeweled barrel locking block or maybe a hard chromed one, since this is usually the first part to start showing finish wear...

have any of you ever had yours jeweled or hard chromed? is this even possible since it is directly connected to the barrel? if so, did you regret it? hehe.

actually while i'm at it, i wouldnt mind having the sights hard chromed either, and instead of white dots, black. this, combined with the metal baseplates and chromed or jeweled locking block would look incredible, i think.

i've thought about getting the slide release hard chromed as well, but i think it would look a little strange without the control lever done the same, which is impossible. we'll see.

and wiley, just based on the replies from this forum, it think it would definately be worth your while to make some of these for both fullsize and compact usp's in all calibers since we all have something different, but we all want some for ourselves. with regard to the compact mags, if you wanted to incorporate the finger extensions you could come close with machining, and i think the angular look would be more appealing than the rounded one on the factory plastic plates.

just remember, for every customer you get, each will probably buy at least 2 of these. probably more, depending on how many mags each customer has. you will also get plenty of return business and even more word of mouth. can you imagine the ruckus these will cause when someone brings theirs to the range?

maybe even selling mags with these plates pre-installed? hmmm...

btw, what were you thinking as far as price is concerned? i know its a little early in the process to be worried about this, but if you've given it any thought, let us know. thanks and keep working on it

You've definitely got some customers. I'd also like to buy a few USP45 aluminum floor plates.

I realize that it would take more effort to make mag bodies, but if those become available, I'll probably be your first customer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wiley

We are most definitely going to make these for all the other USP models and we are also going to work on some extension for the UPS and P7 line of pistols.

We are setting up a web site right now and will be saleing the MK23 floorplates as soon as we can. Then we will start on the others asap.

We are looking at how many we have to run at one time to get the price to 10.00

Does 10.00 dollars a floorplate sound reasonable?

Any and all input is much appreciated.

Thank you for your interest.

BravoKilo

$10 a piece is definitely a reasonable price.

While I really wouldnt need any for my USP9 as I am already using the white mags w/ metal floorplates, I would definitely pick up quite a few for a 45c which I am planning on getting (would look *real* sharp w/ SS slide finish)... and if you could machine them with the finger groove, even better.

Hell, I would (and I'm sure others would too) buy a few extra to keep on hand since we all know how easily HKs multiply /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah, i would say $10.00 is about right. i imagine shipping costs should also be a non-issue since these plates are small and extremely light to send considering their aluminum construction.

another thing to consider is leaving out any engravings on the bottom of the plates. this would save time and effort on your part, and i prefer a minimalistic and simplified look anyway. thats, of course, just my opinion. you asked for it!

cant wait,

Wiley sent me one to test out and try to destroy it. I could not do it. I dropped it 10 times empty and half full (6 rounds) from a height of 5 feet onto dirt/mud, golf ball sized gravel, and concrete. I expected to trash a SOCOM mag in the process. After dropping it between 60 and 70 times total, including some with the pistol at 45 degrees pointed down so it would fall differently, it seems that no matter what I did the mag hit on the back edge of the floor plate. The floor plate was very scratched up and dented but the magazine, except for minor scratches from falling over in the gravel and on the concrete, was totally undamaged and fully 100% functional. Once I recoated the mag with Aluma-Hyde II and put back on the HK floor plate you could not tell it had ever been used. These are really nice floor plates being extremely well made and the caliber engraving is flawless. One thing you will notice when you put it on is that the floor plate catch that sticks down in the center hole does not come all the way down. The reason is the floor plate is much thicker at this point than it is on the HK mag. The floor plate is solid, not cut out in the center so that makes it look like the catch is not fully seated. It is.
Trust me brother, the wait will be worth it!

I sent one to Big Bore to eval for me and this is what he did

10 drops empty on grass and dirt.
10 drops half full on grass and dirt (tactical reload).
10 drops empty on large road gravel-golf ball to tennis ball size.
10 drops half full on large road gravel-golf ball to tennis ball size (tactical reload).
10 drops on concrete empty.

I want post the whole eval but the only problems he had were when it hit the concrete with no rounds in it the follower would try to come out of the mag body and 6 of the 10 times the floor plate came unlatched but did not come off.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/BiggBore/floor%20plate%20test/IDM-24.jpg

When I hit the concrete loaded it ejected rounds form the mag 3 times

Thes are advanced prototype and have a tool mark on the left and right side from trying to see how fast we could run them the production floor plates will not have this.

Wiley,

Came across your threads from 2004 and this one. Sent you a PM but thought I'd post here too to see if anyone else might know anything. Have you produced or are you still planning to produce any base plates for the USP45f?

I'm working on a project using cut-down 20rd Promag bodies to make 15rd mags for use with the Jet Funnel on my Tac .45. I was hoping to find some contoured floor plates that would marry up to the jet funnel or at least come close.

Alternatively, some +3 extenstions to the 12rd mags that were countoured to look close to the way the Jet Funnel installed mags look would work too.

Thank you in advance for any info you can share.

Jim, you might wanna shoot a PM to BIG_CHRIS_304

He made the same kind of deal (USP Tac with extended mags) but he uses regular jet funnel baseplates. Heres the thread:

Thanks for the link F22! I sent him a PM. I knew there had to have been someone else out there that had done this or was planning to. Unfortunately, HK is out of stock of jet funnel mag floor plates as they are with almost all their parts it seems whenever I call. I'd prefer a solid metal floor plate over plastic though even if it wasn't an exact recreation of the HK design to provide a better drop and act as a sacrificial piece that would hit the ground first and protect the rest of the mag.

If anyone knows of anyone making floor plates that are or could be modified to work with the Jet Funnel, please PM me.

Thanks in advance!

I know this is an old old thread but does anyone know of anyone still making metal floor plates for a USP 45???? I tried to get a local machine shop to make some but they told me they could not get it to work. I am looking for 8-10 of them.
