View Full Version : Stupid Decock Button !!

Is it just me, or is the de-cock button on the P2000 a REALLY BAD idea??
I have to totally change my grip, and risk dropping the gun, in order to de-cock. And if my finger is not WELL away from the trigger, it would be REALLY easy to launch a round while trying to de-cock.
I would seriously consider the P30, except for that stupid de-cock button.
........But that's just my NSHO.......what do those of you who actually USE one have to say ???

I hear ya', dude. I bought a USP9C over the P2000 partially due to the strange decocker position on the latter (I also prefer manual safeties on carry weapons, so the frame-mounted "control levers" found on Variant 1 USP's work best for me). Aside from the strange postioning of the decocker, the P2000 seems like a fine gun.

Doesn't bother me but if it does you why not just try one of the LEM models.

Just try useing your weak hand.

I like it, it doesn't protrude like on the USP. Works great for me.

It's VERY easy to do and gets the decocker off the side of the pistol making for a slimmer profile. IMHO, it's a better design!
I always keep my finger away from the trigger when decocking so firing a round by accident is very unlikely!

When I first handled a P2000 V3 with de-cock, I made the mistake of pushing IN on the decocker. It seemed a little hard to decock. I quickly learned to push IN and DOWN. Made a world of difference. After owning both the USP and P2000, I see the new way as a refinement to the design.

It's a lot better than having a decocking lever that keeps decocking while you are shooting like the standard USP V1.

Yeah I love the de cocker on the P2000. I think one actually keeps better control of the gun with it being on the back of the gun versus the side.

+ 1 with Sun Tzu !

Having the possibility to cock or decock your P2000 while holstered is a great advantage ...

Hhmmmm....maybe it IS just me !! I'm so used to my USP's in V3, which always work well for me. I am considering the P30 for my daughter-in-law, not for me anyway. If it ever actually comes out I guess I'll have HER try it and maybe she'll be OK w/ it. Thanx for the responses.

I like it on the back of the slide. I shoot right handed so I manipulate the decocker with my right thumb. Don't have to change my grip in the least.

I love the decocker on the p2000 and am so glad it is being carried over to the P30.

I remember it seemed odd at first but now I don't mind it running right or left handed. It's also good to know that IF after a shooting you have brain-fade and don't decock, you can do so in-holster, without having to draw the weapon again.

Have the USPC and SK. For a LH like me, the USPC decocker is in a opimum natural position. Maybe if the SK decocker button was available on RT hammer side. Offer me a USPC mini and will sell the 2000SK. Gun mfg and holster makers ignore us minority leftys. Intend to contact Schumer on this and introduce a bill.

FWIW.... the decocking button is requiered partly due to the "technical guidelines" that are in place for German police pistols.
Not that it says that a decocker is requested.... but it requests that the pistol be carried decocked, no manual safty and that the striker hit the primer of the cartridge every time you pull the trigger.

I had some trouble at first, but started using the ball of my thumb and I found that for my hand and grip I was able to decock without having to change my grip.

I do not like the decocker on the P2000 either. Love the gun itself but I wish they had just changed the rail on the USP frame and contoured the slide. I will not buy a P2000 or P30 unless it is LEM due to that decocker.

I don't understand why anybody (but a lefty) would have to change there grip for the decocker. I have carried the P7M8 for over 10 years and then moved to a Glock 19 for the past few years and have been going back and forth with the a P2000SK DA/SA. The decocker is actually what I like about the pistol. I always liked the Mauser HSC , but never liked the manual safety on the slide. I love the set up on the P2000SK, switching back and forth between the Glock and HK I use the same grip. I find decocking the pistol very easy, unless your a lefty. I grew up on the P7 and never road the safety or needed to hit the safety off when carrying cocked and locked. I don't like switches on the side of my pistols and took me a little while getting use to a slide release. I suppose if your a 1911 person then decocker would be out of place . Every now and then I think I should just stick to my P7M8. What keeps me from using the P7, I can't put a tactical light on it. I like the same pistol for both carry and home defense. My wife has to be able to use the pistol and she finds the P7M8 hard to use and I want her to have a light. She loves the P2000SK with the Insight X2L with the laser. I love the decocker and the position. I hate levers on the slide or frame of the pistol. I have don't like cock and lock. Then again that’s why they make so many different variants. What might work for you may not work for others

I suppose if your a 1911 person then decocker would be out of place .

If you're a 1911 person, you decock the same way you do everything with the gun: curse, strip magazine, rack slide thrice, re-insert mag, rack slide, pull trigger, think about $2500 spent on a shadow-box gun, curse, repeat.

That's not decocking. 1911 person never decocks because a 1911 person will keep it cocked and locked.

There's really no good reason to have a decocking lever easily accessible. Button on back or on top (like the P99) keeps you from accidentally decocking unlike the USP.

I ride the thumb safety high thumbs style.

Shooting IDPA I have had the decocker on the USPc tie up the trigger more than once. It cost me time.

Truth is, the USPc .40 is a snappy pistol. If you're going to p#ssyfoot around with your grip pressure and shoot high thumbs, try a 9mm.

The aforementioned episodes simply reiterated how important it is to take a firm grip. Firm grip=no accidental decocking due to recoil.

Like anything else, practice practice practice.

I'm 50/50 on the slide mounted decocker. I do know I'm not much of a fan of the LEM.

Ride the safety, then shoot one handed. The tighter you grip, the more likely you will decock the gun.
