Also, I've only shot about 250 rnds through my HK uspc .40 which was NIB and in some places now the polymer has worn off! is this common/normal?

Where did it wear off of? The barrel hood etc.? Pics will also help because some wear on say for example the barrel hood is normal. Other place could be a problem

If you're talking about plastic covering the steel rail inserts than it is normal. The polymer there is very thin and is just a leftover from the manufacturing process. It has no effect on the gun's functionality.
