P30 question... with pic

I noticed something at the range today and then recreated it at home with snap caps ---with the slide locked back if I slam (moderately forcefully) the loaded mag in place --- the slide closes and chambers a round without any other action than slaming the mag home. I can lock the mag in place, quite easily without the slide closing by simply sliding it in untill the click.

Is this normal?

Yep perfectly normal. Mine does it and I don't mind. There was a thread a few weeks ago and a few other P30 owners all said the slide closed on them when inserting a mag as well.

Yep, looks like we're back to the "auto slide" again. This was by design in the original USP too, but too many people complained about it, and the slide catch knotch angle was changed so the slide would stop going home upon a jolt of force such as seating magazine. If there's enough complaint, I'd imagine this will change too.

Cool! I like it. the hk4 is that way, you don't even have to slam it, it's just the normal insertion. Are you saying it does it on any complete insertion or only if you bang it in a little? I think the target guys would like it if it always closed on insertion, since it saves having to drop the slide if you get all the way out to the last round before reload.
Now that I'm thinking about it, I wonder if you could make that modification on a target race gun?

Great -- I figured it was by design ---- I can easily insert the mag without the slide closing, but, when shooting, I usually use the palm of left (I'm right handed) hand to seat the mag and this is enough "force" to close the slide ---it is cool, cause once you slam in a new mag you are ready to shoot........

I have pistols that do the same thing. In competition shooting it can come in handy at times.

Mostly all of my guns do it, but not reliably enough that I would count on it happening. Personally I just use the slide release.
