The Insight manual indicates the X2 should be sighted in at 25 yards. Is that practical on a sub-compact? I haven't had a chance to get to the range w/ the X2, I have aligned it with the iron sights at about 7 yards for now, just in case.

Any suggestions or comments?

For a weapon-mounted light such as the X2, it makes little difference.

With the laser sighted in at 7 yards. If you go to shoot someone that is 25 yards away, if you are aiming at his chest you will probably hit him in the leg. If the laser is sighted in at 25 yards and you go to shoot someone that is only 7 yards away you will probably hit an inch or less away from where the laser is pointing.

This is because when the laser is sighted in at a close range it is pointing up quite a bit. This is easy to see when you go to the range. With it sighted in at 7 yards, it should match up with the iron sights on a target 7 yards away. Now move the target to 25 yards without adjusting the laser. Line up the iron sights on the target and the laser will be over a foot high. If you have the laser sighted in at 25 yards it is more parallel with the barrel. Move the target back to 7 yards and the laser will be an inch or so low on the target.

I would sight it in at 25 yards since you would be on at that range. If someone happens to be closer you are only off by an inch or so which isn't a big deal in a self defense situation. If it is sighted in at 7 yards, chances are you will miss completely at 25 yards. This is VERY bad in a self defense situation.
