From what I can tell, FFL transfers are one of the few firearm-related things about which you can honestly say PRICE is all that matters. On that note, I began a quest of trying to find the cheapest fee in Connecticut.
Hoffman's is a ridiculous $50. Most places seem to be ~$35. For a while, I thought that Newington Gun Exchange ($30) was the cheapest. That is, until I stumbled upon Brennan's Guns in Pawcatuck: $15!!

The only problem is that most people (myself included) will probably spend the difference in gasoline, just driving to Pawcatuck. Does anyone know of a more centrally-located spot that's cheaper than $30?

Valley firearms in shelton does it for 50 i think, although id never use them anyways. I hate that place. Place in wolcott does it for $45 i think it was.
But yea, pawcatuck? im not spending the extra gas money and time to pawcatuck to save $15

You couldn't be more wrong. Once you get a FFL who screws up a transfer or your gun, you will understand price is the least that matters.

I think $30-$35 is resonable. Everything is going up, and when you figure it takes 10-15 minuts worth of paperwork, and the phone call and such, thats time away from other stuff.

I'd be curious to hear you elaborate on this.
I purchased a Hi-Point C-9 from Northeast Sporting Arms in Seymour yesterday, and I cringed when I saw the old school "notepad with carbon paper" come out. Strictly hand-written everything, lots of room for human error. And they don't take credit cards either. No computers, no technology of any kind (save for a fax/photocopy machine). A far cry from modernized stores like Hoffman's and especially K-5 in Milford. Maybe I'm just being ridiculous, and the sale did (eventually) proceed without a hitch. It just took a very long time compared to my other recent experiences.

How do you go from HK to Highpoint? You have to go to the Member's Gallery and see how HK fever affects us. Just looking at all those toys boggles my mind (but makes me feel a hell've lot better about my toys). Just fooling with ya- you're picking up 2 toys a week so far.

I intend to carry the P2000SK as my primary CCW, in the Comp-Tac MTAC. It will be loaded with 155-grain Federal Hydra-Shok JHP. I also wanted a beater 9mm just for plinking and range trips. $165+tax, I can't complain. Plus the ammo is cheaper. Just ordered a Fobus paddle holster for the Hi-Point. FYI, if anyone wants to order any Fobus products from their web site, you can get a 20% discount if you use code FBSDEK
Actually, the same day I bought the P2000SK, I also bought a used Smith & Wesson model 422. So that's three in less than 2 weeks. Having some feeding problems with that one, though. Using Federal value pack .22LR from Wal-Mart (copper plated, hollow point, 36-grain). A Blue Trail employee recommended CCI "standard weight." I assume he meant "Standard Velocity" (40-grain Round Nose). I'll have to try that next.
I should mention that I also tried Remington Subsonic (38 Grain Hollow Point, Mfg Item #SUB22HP), with even worse results. So maybe Hollow Points are the problem?

Try CCI MiniMag High Velocity.

Just goto K-5! They take care of everything with the utmost corteous and professional manner. I see no reason to shop anywhere else. :D
As Bolted pointed out, try CCI Mini-Mags. They are as close as you get to "perfect" factory .22 ammunition and will work in even the most tempermental .22 pistols. If it doesn't work with this stuff then it probably needs repair.

I do. Price. Id rather not spend top MSRP for something i can get much cheaper somewhere else. Although K-5. because of the type of weaponry they carry and the loyal clientele they have can most definitely charge what they do and not hear a complaint about it.

I goto K5 for flat out good and friendly service. However, I do suppose I am on the inside looking out a bit, as I am just that "loyal clientel" you spoke of. The fact is if you are a good customer and you bring him good business you won't be paying the asking price for very long. MSRP was $1200 on the USP Combat Comp. and his price was $1100, actually $100 cheaper then MSRP. He took $90 off the sticker price of my USPc and gave me one hell of a deal on my P7M8.
In my mind, if someone has to seriously haggle and break balls about the price of an HK then they flat out can't afford one and should be looking at pistols more in their price range. Also, his used prices are right on point and there are some good deals to be had there. Personally I would rather pay a little more for a gun if I can get good service with it. I'd rather not goto stores filled with grumpy old men where they schoff at you just because you asked to see something. K5 will get my business everytime.

Ive been all over Central CT for gun stores. I do like K-5, they have an awesome arsenal but for what Id be buying Id rather spend the 50-75 less and go to NGX. Ive always received excellent service there and they have the best prices Ive seen around. Its not like Im out looking for MP5s and .50 cals on a normal basis.

I hear that. I take it NGX is New England Gun Exchange? I have heard good things about them from friends. I also like the little shop at Blue Trail range where I bought my Buckmark, very friendly service there too. If I'm looking for a .22 I will go there from now on. K-5 I goto mainly for HKs as he has a fairly decent selection that always has the "latest and greatest" HK. :)
We can't buy full-auto MP5's everyday, and for most of us... not at all due to what they cost these days, but it's still nice to dream. :13:

Regarding K-5, I had a very pleasant experience there when I bought my P2000SK.
Brightly lit, clean, well organized, courteous and helpful staff, very friendly atmosphere.
With regard to NGX:
This place was a little tricky to find at night via GPS. It's tucked away in a plaza, and you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it.
There's a huge inventory, packed into a store too small to hold it all. No clear indication is made as to why two different guns of the same model are priced differently. Obviously it has to do with condition or options, but it's up to the buyer to figure out the specifics. This was one of the reasons I eventually declined to give them my business.
The staff seemed a bit indifferent and preoccupied. I didn't get much in the way of a friendly vibe. They seem to cater strictly to the hardcore enthusiast, at least on the surface.
A big plus is their hours. Newington Gun Exchange is open seven days a week, from 10 am to 8 pm Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturdays, and from 11 am to 4 pm on Sundays.

This has always been my expierience with K5, and is the main reason why they will keep seeing repeat business from me. :)
