I need to go buy some new snap caps for dry fire practice with my HK's. I don't like to do extended dry firing without snap caps. What brand do you all recommend? I had a set given to me that worked fine and I'm not sure what brand they were. Thanks in advance.

I have been using Traditions snap caps, seem good to me.

I use AZOOM brand snap caps for all my pistols, rifles, and shotguns. They have all metal cases which means they are longer lasting then plastic. Also, the rubber primer pad on them will last for thousands of dry-fires and will assure you do not damage your firing pin.

Thanks for the replies! It looks like I'll be ordering the A-Zooms very soon.

Can the firing pin on a modern HK really be damaged without a snap cap?

On a super cheap note, you can take a pencil eraser and cut it to fit into the primer pocket. Costs like 2 cents... maybe.

thats what i was thinking and im pretty sure the answer is no. ive been told that snap caps are redundant in modern pistols

Snap caps are a good idea if you're one to sit and dry fire thousands of times.
If you're just testing function or something, there's really no need to worry when dry firing.
Oh, and in answer to the OP, I use AZooms.

Yeah, most modern pistols dont need snap caps, usually only rimfire rifles/handguns need them, so that the firing pin doesn't hit into the rim area of the chamber.
I have snap caps just to have something "there" (other than live ammo) so i can do reloading drills and stuff without having live ammo.
I use Azoom snap caps also ;)

Agreed. To my mind, it can't hurt to use them so why not?

In all my travels, I have yet to see a .22 caliber snap cap. I figured it couldn't be done because they would have to make the rubber pad around the whole rim of the case and then it might not extract. If Azoom makes them, then they are clearly eluded me because I would own some in a heartbeat if they did. :)

Yea, I've seen .22 snap caps (need 'em for the CA handgun safety whatever test). The azoom ones are all metal and I'm pretty sure that they need replacing fairly frequently... but then I assume that's why they come in packs of like 20. i haven't bothered buying any yet tho.

Interesting. As I said I have never seen any .22 snap caps first hand. I doubt Azoom makes them for the reason I stated earlier. I wonder how these work, does the firing pin just impact the soft plastic shell, or is there a spring or something else in there? Because the primer isn't in the center it seems harder to make them work.
Edit: Thank you FFemt5287 , I stand corrected. Going to have to get some of those for sure! :)
