i was looking at a pic of a usp just now and i guess ive seen it before but it just kinda struck me, why did hk make pat. pending such a predominant feature on the grip of the pistol? seems kinda goofy,is it on all usp's ? i dont know if theres a real answer for this but what do you guys think, they probably coulda made it less conspicuous in my opinion

It's on the compact pistols. No clue why though.

It was only on USP pistols before they wend to just saying USP in big letters on the grip. When that changed they took the patent pending off. Generally speaking if you have an AG or newer date code, then you probably just have big blocky USP on the grip. If it is older then that, then you will have a nice looking HK USP on one side and the patent pend. on the other. Another change was that they now have HK Sidearms on the right side as well.

And just to clarify, the early year USP pistols said "HK usp" on both sides. Think KC, KD, KE, date codes.

And starting in KF and thru AC for sure, they have US Pat. 5.309.915 on the right side of the frame grip.

I saw this pic of an AG compact and it has HK USP on the grip instead of the USP.

This patent pending model will be a much more valuable for resale. Pendind is either approved or rejected in 3-4 years. Patents are issued for 20 years and millions will be made with the patent number listed. Your gun is collectible.
