I'm thinking about getting my g/f a P7M8 for her first handgun because of its small size and all the talk I hear about it on this sight. Can any one offer some insight to me about the merit of my idea? The smaller gun would be perfect for her small hands and its level of control is another factor I was looking at.

As long as she doesn't have a weak grip...she shouldn't have a problem with the squeeze cocker. My PM78 is still fairly new so it requires a tad bit of palm strength at first. The Pm78 is also a little heavy for it's size (lots of quality steel). If your gf has weak arms the combination may take some getting use to. Beyond that I think you're good to go. It's a great firearm....don't get embarassed if she starts outshooting you!

It takes about 18lbs of pressure to cock but very little to maintain once you squeeze. My wife likes the P7 almost as much as her Glock 19.

P7M8 is perfect for women. It can be safely dropped into a purse with a round in the chamber, unlike a glock or really just about anything. women love it, not sure why, but it's a weird sort of affection, disproportionate, sort of like Obama's popularity.
Just ask my ex wife. she took my (now ex)P7. No hard feelings. Bitch.
the only thing i caution people about for new shooters and the P7 series is that its manual of arms is SOOOO different than any other weapon that they need to practice, practice, practice.....
under stress an inexperienced shooter very often just pulls the trigger.....1911 shooters forget to swipe the safety...SAR shooters forget to hammer back, and P7M8 shooters wont pre-cock.....its why glocks are so successful....pull, point, shoot....
having said that, i often carry a P7....but its always with practice....

Thanks everyone, but after seeing another thread with the price for one stated around 1499 I don't know if well be seeing one around here anytime soon. Youll all have to wait to see a P7M8 with pink grips.

The P7M8 is probably not a good idea for a first gun for the inexperienced
shooter.
A P30 would be a far better choice for her first gun.
I'm not going to say the "G" word here, but even one of those things would
be a better choice for a first gun. (I Can't believe I said that)
