What is the deal with the HK factory decal grips on the Combat models? Can they be taken on and off several times, or once you peel them off, will the adhesive be non-reusable?

I have a set on all my USP's they are pretty much good for only one application

If you are reffering to the stock grips on models like the USP Combat Competition then there isn't much to talk about. They are not seperate panels or removable in any way, the polymer grip is stippled and checkered just like my USPc. Really no difference that I am aware of and it is a wonder to me why HK even says this thing about "decal grips". They look and feel like standard USP grips to me.

But I experimentally pried up one edge, and it stuck back down pretty well.

I don't really like them, but was wondering if I took them off, they could be re-applied.

Is the grip stippled just like a regular USP underneath the sandpaper like material?
I checked out a 40 combat model yesterday at the gunshow....it didn't feel like it protruded above the grip surface like some add on skateboard tape grips do.

I have several pair on my USP's. Once you peel them off thats it, they should be replaced, the price is very reasonable at under $10. I use the 'Rubber' texture ones 1/32" thick - the 'Sand' texture is the one HK applies, those are 1/40" thick.

Ah, perhaps you meant the Custom Combat only. In which case I have no knowledge of the decal grips you are reffering to. All I can say is they aren't present on my USP Combat Comp.

The frames and stipling are standard (or else HK would have had to make a whole new set of injection molds for these). They are just very thin.

The ones on mine have an unpleasant "sandpaper" feel, not a rubbery feel like Hogue grips.
