View Full Version : USP-tactical trigger failure......

I have an AB coded USP-tactical that I took to the range the first time this past weekend....
I have been shooting (competitively) for over 50 years, so I AM an experienced shooter.....
I was sighting the gun (for me) over a leather bean-filled bag. I try to rest my hand on the edge of the bag so the grips fall nicely into the fold.....
In testing ammo (for what the gun "likes"), the first couple of rounds went OK, but ultimately (for nearly every rested group) the trigger would fail to fire. I tapped the mag, and recocked the hammer, and the shot fired...
When I free-handed the gun, all shots went well. Gun is fairly accurate, although it does not compare in accuracy to my S&W Perf. Ctr. guns.
Any comments on the trigger?????

This gun also produces pinched middle finger on my shooting hand with a magazine change (the ambidex. release moves up and down and I have very small hands and get pinched).

What exactly do you mean the "Trigger" fails to fire? The trigger moves a bar which disengages the catch which drops the hammer which in turn hits a firing pin that hits the primer. It could be any one of those issues.

As far as getting your finger pinched by the mag release I had the same issue. In turn what I would do, and it helps alot with small hands. Instead of trying to reach across and hit the mag release on the left side (if you're right handed) as you would with a 1911. Pull your middle finger back and push down with it while leaving your trigger finger resting ontop of the frame.

Ah I see exactly what's happening now. I actually had a similar issue. Do tactical's come with the match trigger? I always thought that was just the experts.

Why would that be???
Works perfectly freehand, but when rested, on the leather bag, the trigger fails to fire the gun. You pull and there is resistance but no "break". It seems to be a result of recoil inertia being stoopped by the bag, but the gun is in battery and there is no slide impingement like a "limpweristed" shot. In fact, it would be the opposite...the frame is "locked" down, so recoil can do its thing.
What about pressure-upward- on the magazine impacting on the trigger. I read that there is NO magazine disconnect, so I wonder how this is possible!!

You need to back out the overtravel screw. It appears that the overtravel is set right on the edge. Changing the grip pressure on the plastic frame is just enough to distort the frame to cause the sear not to release the hammer.

I bet if you try shooting off the bench again in double action, the gun will most likely not fire. The DA releases the sear just a bit earlier in the travel than in SA. It might also occur while firing offhand.

The pinch doesn't happen from activating the lever, the pinch happens when the mag is pushed in (correct me if I'm wrong, TJPopkin).

The same thing happens with my USP Compact 45. don't worry about it - over time your hand will develop callouses where the gun pinches and digs in. I already have one developing on the base of my thumb where the safety lever rubbed a raw hole. It's all good.
