Gentlemen, Took the P7M8 to the range today for the first time and it was different than what I'm used to to saythe least. Nothing negative to say about the pistols performance in any way because it was perfect in functionality going through 100 rounds of FMJ's from Wal-Mart. but shooting wise (technique) it required a completely unique set of demands on the shooter that are totally different from tradititional pistols. Shooting the P7M8 with it's very, very light frontend, squeezing to cock, lining up the sights and getting used to the trigger (which isn't bad), etc presents feeling of "REALLY--HUH--WOW"--;)experience.
Bottom line is I didn't shoot worth a darn, but I think after a few more times it'll get better. I think I should have taken only the P7M8 and left the Sig at home.
Quick question: Any timp on cleaning? What's this "drop safety thing" and how do you make sure it doesn't fall out from where ever it is? Is it hard to put back if it does fall out?
Thanks,
JimK

The drop safety won't fall out unless the spring breaks. I wouldn't worry about it breaking on a brand new M8. My drop safety spring finally broke on my 25 year old PSP a few weeks ago and took about 5 minutes to put back in with a pair tweezers once I got a new spring from HK.

There are tons of tips on cleaning in the archives.

Wow I am suprised. I find the P7 to be a "pick it up and shoot it" gun. The first time I fired one I was fairly accurate with it. Also, a thumbs forward grip is very comfortable on the P7M8, my thumb rests right in line with the heat sheild.

It may take you some time getting used to your P7 though. The squeeze cocking action is unlike any other pistol out there. What were your groups like? When I transition from shooting a Glock to the P7 the lower sights on the Glock make me want to push the P7 front sight a little too low. This is easily corrected by paying better attention to the sight picture though.

However, cleaning the P7 is a chore. It gets very fouled up, even after only 100rnds. For myself it just takes a little longer to clean then a Glock or USP (or a SIG for that matter :) ) I have never had any loose parts fall out of my P7 while doing a basic field strip and clean.

I shoot 250rds per session in about an hour on my PSP doing mainly double and triple taps. It does get warm but never too hot to shoot.
