Hey everyone,

New HK owner here and I need some help. Recently purchased a NIB USPf 9 and, since it’s my first HK, I’m not quite sure what to expect. So far I’ve had 2 FTEs in the first 200 rounds. Both stove piped. I’m also hearing a pronounced “ding” every time a casing ejects. I presume this is the brass hitting the slide. Are a few FTEs to be expected while the gun settles in? Is the “ding” normal? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m using factory ammo and the mags that came with it… gun was cleaned and lubed prior to use. BTW, great forum. Thanks.

What kind of ammo is it?

Try different ammo. Most likely that's the problem.

Stay away from metal cased Wolf ammo. Wolf ammo will damage the bell/slide face and extractor. I general brake my 9mms in with Federal American Eagle 124gr and 147gr ammo. Try a good quality 124 or 147 gr and then monitor its function. Let us know what happens.

I agree with the post above. Try the Federal 147 gr ammo. It is affordable (ammoman 1000 rd shipped is $229) and works great in my USP9.
Welcome to the post and good luck.

I bought some Independence Arms ammo at the range. That could be
the culprit.

It probably is. I've never heard of that brand.

Go to Wal-Mart and get some Winchester White Box. My USP9
eats that stuff like a starving dog. No problems at all.

Could be just break-in. I recently purchased a NIB USPc 45 and had the same exact (2 FTE in 200 rounds) thing happen to me, so I brought it home and cleaned the sh*t out of it. I have put about 700 more rounds thru it (since that first trip to the range) without a FTF or FTE, so I am satisfied with thinking my problems were due to break-in. Let us know how you make out.
Good luck
