I'm relatively new to HK. Its time to get a 45 for competition.Any ideas??? I've rented the Mark 23, Expert, and friends have a few other varients, but at the range you are severly scorned for double taps, I can't imagine what would happen if you emptied a mag in 4 seconds...1970's was a 9mm in 1911 format until the G35 came out. Now its time for the final evolution, to HK. I'm used to long slides, so the Elite fits that. I LOVE the Mark 23. The Expert seems right in the middle...Does it really matter...What do you think???

Depends on the competition and what you are trying to achieve.

used to shoot IPSC/IDPA, and the GSSF competitions...i don't shoot them as much as i should anymore...bowling pins is a lot of fun...some miltary and fed friends have set up some loose, more like drill competitions...they aren't as testosterone laden...and frankly, i've just gotten used to my handguns being able to run fast and be very accurate!!! there is no reason that a 45 can't compete against a 40 or 9 if reload with softer loads...

I have an Expert .45 with the light LEM trigger. I use it in IDPA in the CDP division. I am very pleased with it.

GSSF requires a, you guessed it, Glock.

IDPA, the Elite and Mark 23 will not fit in the IDPA box. Expert45 with the ambi safety won't fit either unless you remove one of the levers or shave them down. Any one of the guns with a overtravel screw on the trigger will put you into ESP or CDP depending on the caliber and how many rounds you got in the mag.

USPSA (it's not IPSC anymore since the two have separated):
Prod: Must be on the approved list so none of the longer barrel guns are allowed except the USP9SD. No Match trigger either.
L10: You can pretty much use anything here.
Limited: It's a round count race, don't have more than 18 rounds in a 140mm mag, stay away.
Open: Stay away because you will never shoot a HK fast enough to make a dent into the score board if you are a competitive person.
SingleStack: 1911's only.

Scooter is right. I have had a lot of fun with a P2000 in IDPA SSP division. I used to use a USPc .45 in CDP and SSP. Bruce Grey wrote some of using a USP in production, it can be done. Not so much by the top competitors but for us low level guys, go ahead. I really like H&K's mag release and slide catch, when the slide locks back put your trigger finger on the mag release and thumb on the slide release, slam the mag in and the slide drops. It has been my experience that at the local level the IDPA box is rarely used, I would get a kick out someone using a Mk23.

At the local level, many IDPA clubs don't even use the rule book and come up with the own rules and give you procedurals for shooting too fast. Seen it done before.

At my local IDPA club, we have one of the largest clubs in the country, the box will come out at least 3-4 times per year as part of the stage prop. If the gun doesn't fit in the box, FTDR (20 second penalty).
