View Full Version : Where to get a P7 finish "restored"?

I recently picked up a Saxony P7 B grade and while it is a nice little gun, it is going to mostly be a toy for me (no "carry concerns" or wear concerns) and it kind of makes my eyelid twitch that it works so smooth but it's finish looks so worn down. I was considering a chrome refinish for it but the more I look at it, the less I like the idea of a bright steely chrome finish on it and the more I want it to be "returned to it's youth" in a nice, bright blued finish. You know, a nice deep glossy black.

I've looked around and found a lot of threads with people asking where to get their P7's refinished into chrome and other finishes, but where is a good place to get a P7 "restored"? I'm not looking to get a crazy new age polymer titanium impregnated teflon coating or anything... I just want a nice gloss black bluing job that returns my Saxony P7 and it's sights to "looking factory new".

Anyone have any input?

You are better off going with a more durable black finish like Ion-bond. The gun is incredibly hard to blue, literally. Certain areas in the slide are welded and sometimes the bluing doesn't come out too well. You'll end up with a nice black slide until you get to the back where the bushing is. Then you'll get a light gray finish around the areas that have harden from welding.

FWIW:

And, I've never seen a prettier pistol than a P7 (or M8) that has been quality hardchromed and with a set of Nill Romala grips.

Just the picture of one of those is what got me "into" this P7 business..

I had mine done by Tripp, Hard Chromed, did and excellent job, according to their website they will no longer offer refinish services after June 10.

I have only ever liked all black guns but you are absolutely right here. The hard chrome makes it look like an entirely different pistol and I think is a must if you pick up a used one that could use refinishing.

Accurate Plating & Weaponry (Cogan's Custom) is the best place for finishing. Bob is also working with some incredible new types of finishing (Ceraguard), but can give you a rich black finish that will make your P7 look like new, and will be much stronger than HK's finishing.

Yep I too had a P7M8 HC by Tripp and it was awesome! I had a few mags done by them also. Of course, once I started getting into the gas piston AR's all my P7's went out the door to finance these things! :)

I've used Bob Cogan also, and was pleased with the work. I mentioned getting my P7 done and my wife said, "Not another pimp gun?!"

So, the P7 may go to Birdsong for a black-t finish...

I just had one of my P7s refinished at Ford's in black nickel; brushed on the flats, matte on the rounds. Very nice finish which gives the deep luster of blueing with the increased durability of nickel.

I just got mine back from

I had the matte black finish done, but have handled several they did in House Black also. Very pleased. Great prices, too!

CCR does great work! They have a new finish now also (not black though) that you may want to look at in case you change your mind about the color.

I second IonBond. PVD finishes are the best on the market currently.
