Before I send my USP 45C back to Hk for repair after the local certified Hk armorer raped it, please, would someone mind telling me beyond a shadow of doubt: is the flat spring set into the frame such that it is a snug fit or should there be any fore and aft slop (movement) in it? My flat spring (the third one in as many days) can freely wiggle back and forth as much as 3mm. This armorer actually broke one of the curled ends off of one of the springs' fingers when he removed the original in order to install a match trigger. He used (I kid you not) a flat bladed screwdriver having a length of roughly eighteen inches. He propped the screwdriver against his groin in order to push the spring up while simultaneously reefing on the spring with a pair of pliers.

To be fair, here is his rationale...

In looking at the frame, it appears to be damaged. I posted earlier about the pistol randomly dropping its hammer to half-cock at no particular time. Fourteen days ago, the pistol was NIB and fired 588 rounds flawlessly. I took it to the armorer because the decocker was not smooth. While there, I asked about the match trigger and went ahead and had it done. Thoughts on the loose flat spring will be appreciated. Thank you.

The flat spring has a, for lack of a better word. Detent.

it needs to be depressed from the notch in order to be removed from the frame.

If properly depressed, the spring comes out with a tug. You can see this detent and the notch it locks into from the bottom of the magwell. There should be NO play in the spring as that will compromise its ability to press on the sear and catch the hammer which leads to exactly what you described. The hammer does not catch on the single action and your pistol becomes DAO.

If the decock is not smooth try putting a drop of oil down the hole next to the ejector, there is a spring there that applies pressure to the safety.
