Hello Everyone
Has anyone used Don Hume for holsters? They look good and wanted some feedback from people who might have bought them. Thanks

From what I have seen, they offer a pretty good value for the money. Most belt slots are quite large though.

I have the 715 for the P7 and the XD. They are good holsters for the money (~$30), but the belt slot is unforgiving. You really need a 1-1/2" belt to stabilize the belt clip on those models. Are they comparable to a full house custom holster? Hell no, but they are good leather holsters in their own right.

With that being said, if I'm packing either of those two guns, that's what it's riding in.

Not the most comfortable I agree. But for the money and durability, you can't beat them. There duty holsters are another story, stay away from them.

I just took delivery of an H721OT OWB belt slide for my P7M8; sort of a stream-lined "pancake" style holster.

I ordered this thing for something to use on the range with my new pistol, while waiting on the custom IWB I ordered from TTGunleather. Turns out the TT IWB showed up first; and I wish Don Hume had their holster back and I still had my $56.

I have been acquainted with Don Hume stuff for many, many years. AFAIK, they still produce the excellent duty magazine pouches (both uniform and plainclothes) and plainclothes/off-duty holsters that my old alma mater issues.

HK1286 is spot-on; their duty holsters are large, heavy, blocky things that are WAY overbuilt. But the concealable holsters are simple, plain designs that work well.

However... this new example I have is rather depressing. The leather (if indeed it really IS leather- hard to tell) is very open-grained and rough. No problem for a range holster... but the belt slots are cut for a 1.75" belt, which gives the holster a bit of vertical play when drawing. Workmanship (stitching, etc.) and gun fit is satisfactory.

IOW, this would better than a ten dollar gun-show nylon special. But after seeing those belt slots (and to be fair, the catalog tells you this), I doubt I'll ever use this thing.

Bottom line; if you need a decent holster and a Don Hume is the best available right then, it will serve you well. But there are superior designs to be had.

If you want a primo IWB holster and don't want to wait six months or longer, I can highly recommend Tim Thurner at www.ttgunleather.com

He got my holsters to me in four weeks, and as far as I'm concerned, these are every bit as good as a Sparks VM2... EXCEPT for the tuckable option. If you need that, the TT holster won't fill that bill.

I bought the Don Hume Open Top Belt Holster (# H721 OT) in black leather for my USP Compact 45. It also has the 1 3/4" belt slots.

I like this holster alot considering the price I paid. It was $36 after a 10% Easter discount (2 years ago) from Gunner's Alley. Fits my USPc 45 perfectly, but I can also even use it for my USPc 9mm (at the range only, since it does not hold the 9mm as snugly as the .45). The belt slots are the perfect size for the belt I use it with. . . I actually bought a thick, wide leather belt at a Dollar Store for $2, and it has held up great! Of course I don't use it every day, but again, for me, this is an excellent holster for the price. . .

Hope this helps :)

Just realizing that LSP 972 has the same holster. . .

The leather on mine is very obviously nice quality, tight-grained leather. Don't know if I got lucky or if LSP got unlucky with the leather quality! But I paid alot less! At the price I paid, it is well-worth-it if you can make it work for you.

LSP 972, maybe you ought to return yours as defective? Any way, I'm pretty sure you could sell it on HKPro for a fair price since it is barely used. :)

No sense throwing good money (return shipping) after bad.

Barely used? It is UN-used. I took it out of the box, examined it, and put it back in the box.

I'm going to offer it to a friend who has an M8, but no holster for it.

I would put them in the same class as Bianchi. These are good leather holsters but not custom quality such as Kramer.

I like my Bianchi No. 5 Black Widow for my P2000sk. Don Hume makes a similar belt slide with strap retention called the Agent 9.

My other favorite is Fist holsters in leather and expecially ultra thin kydex IWB. check out www.fist-inc.com

IMHO they are no better nor no worse than any of the cookie cutter factory holsters. My problem with all of those with clips is that sooner or later you are going to draw the whole thing vice just the gun. I have had J hooks and the common clips come loose. If I have any other choice, I perfer leather loops, be they snap, screw or sewn.

I was going in between the Don Hume 712 and the High Noon Mister Softy for my G26 and I went with the High Noon. Both are good holsters but check out highnoonholster.com before you make a decision.

For the money- Don Hume is a great holster. For a leather holster, break it in with Pecard's Leather Dressing. Hume puts an extra band of leather around the opening of the holster which is very stiff when new. Pecard's helps to soften the leather to the quality of the custom shops.

Any gun I carry for defence is in a Kramer horsehide side scabard or IWB. The only time I stray from this is when I have to deeply cconcel & then is a S&W 642 in a Kramer pocket holster

I own Don Hume products and am 100% satisfied! The holster for my P2000SK is perfect and so are the belts that I own.

You can buy from them with confidence.

I have a two IWBs. They have fit Glock 30, Glock 26, Para Ordnance 6.45 LDA Carry, Para Ordnance 12.45 LDA, S&W 3913 and almost OK with H&K P7 M8.
