Hello Everybody,
I bought my first H&K the P30, I'm a died in the wool SIG guy. Anyway, it's always been suggested that I give the Sigs a good clean and lube job before the first range visit. Do you consider it valid here? Or does H&K put some special mojo on their pistols for the beginner to just go out and blast away? Either way is fine with me and I have my cleaning rituals just like most for upkeep of my SIG's...BTW I think the P30 is one damn fine pistol from just what I can tell without putting anything downrange:61:

The factory goop was pretty thick in my P30, so I cleaned it. As quick and easy as it is to field strip, I'm surprised you haven't opened it up yet.

Some would suggest cleaning first. I personally, have never cleaned a weapon before I fired it the first time. With some lesser quality firearms, you might get some failures, but with HK, I wouldn't worry about it.
On a side note, it is a good way to make sure there are no visable defects that would make firing the weapon unsafe.

Absolutely. I don't know what they put in and on the guns at the factory. But after I break it down, visually inspect everything, clean it very well, and use the lub of my choice, I'm confident my first trip to the range will be uneventful. Recommend you do the same.

Like the others have said give the gun a good cleaning before heading to the range. Not only to remove the thick packing greese but to closely inspect your firearms.
All NIB guns should be cleaned and oiled before shooting - Colt, Browning, CZ, Smith, Walther, FN - nothing special about H&K that would warrant running it with factory gun packing grease and no oil.
Come to think of it, I would not shoot a used one without cleaning and oil...just in case the previous owner was a 'slacker'

I think it goes without saying.

Clean it. Consider it a "get aquainted" date.

Shouldn't be necessary but wouldn't hurt to do it just in case.

Yes, you should clean and lube it first.
That much having been said however, if you'd rather not do the whole cleaning and lube thing, at the least you need to run a patch down the barrel first.

Well....I field stripped her yesterday qand wipped her off and relubed with a few drops of breakfree and lubed the rails with slide glide....a SIG cleaning tradition I've used for quite some time with great success, and finally wiped her down again before putting her to rest.
One thing though....that slide release axle was a PIA:170000: until I got used to it!

I would certainly say to clean it, and lube it up. Better safe than sorry
