So I went into the local shop thinking I had my mind set on the USPc 9. Then the guy hands me a P30. Geez, i'm not exaggerating, it became a part of my hand. The weight distribution was perfect. My only hang up is that is doesn't have a manual safety. This is a huge personal preference for me, so I just wanted to know if anyone is aware of whether or not HK has any plans to put an external safety on the P30? I'd buy two the day they came out.

so far I don't think so. I suppose it can be compared to the SIG P226/229 which doesn't have a manual safety either and is intended to be carried decocked (double action).

Not if it is intended to be an evolution of the P2000 series, which is appears to be.

At this time it does not look like it.
However, with CA requiring an external safety for all new guns, I see a small chance that HK might offer something like this.
But why do you want a safety on your HK???
If you keep it loaded in the house, you should have it in a safe, quick access box or in a holster on you.
If you carry your gun(s) with the safety on, unless it's a 1911, you should think this over!!

I'd carry the HK45c in SA with safety on. Wouldn't you?

USPc 40 condition 1 here. Just started to get the P30 into rotation with the USP. DA carry on the P30.

No. Two reasons:
1. You could in stress forget to push it down.
2. It might take you longer to disangage the safety.
All LE agancies I heard off/know don't alow their officers to holster with the safety on!!

It seems to work for the US armed forces for close to 100 years now. Not to mention LA SWAT and SIS. Both of which not only carry M1911A1 sidearms, but have commercial models fashioned after the weapons they have in their holsters every day.

That's why I don't trust cops with guns :(
it's sad, no wonder they all use Glocks...nobody knows what a safety is. Pretty much every agency I've looked at around my area issues Glock because "it's cheaper, it's simple to point and shoot, and the spare parts are cheap and available". Politics...
Also, if you practice enough you will never forget the safety. Practice from the draw and wipe the safety off, repeat. It'll be second nature that you'll wipe the safety off your guns that don't even have a safety. Also, DA trigger pull is rough at least when you're talking about getting an accurate shot. I don't want to waste my first shot on the wall :)
That's me though, I suck at DA accuracy.

SEALs have been using the Sig P226 DA/SA sans safety, for decades. Just a counter point. IIRC, we carried the Mk23 both ways, as it was brand new, and we were trying to get used to it, and figure out the best way to carry. It was such a monster for me (small hands), that I just stuck with the P226 most of the time.

Point well taken. That is a big weapon.

I like external safeties, too..a la 1911s.
But I now own the P30. Not too happy with the trigger or accuracy. But I think it will grow on me.
I really like it for a carry gun because it does not have a safety to mess with. Just pull the trigger. But you can do that with a Glock. But I don't like the Glocks because they do not have the long hard pull on the first shot like the DA/SA P30. That is why I like the P30..the long DA pull. It is pretty hard to have an accidental discharge. Figure it this way; it is like a DA/SA revolver.. only with 15 rounds and reloads.
I am more likely to carry the P30 because of the action and it's light weight coupled with nice ergonomics. It is a true carry/duty/combat piece.
I think the decocker on the P30 is really cool.

The trigger isn't as clean as I'd have liked and that's where the lowered accuracy comes from. I shoot the HK45 better than the P30 because of the trigger.

Politics? Sounds like a pretty valid argument to me....

I heard HK is working on a match trigger for the p30. Also the LEM variant will be nice. Especially since it will come in 2 configurations. The contrasting difference will be the weight of the trigger pull. I believe the lightest it will come in is 4.5lbs. Also the reset might be a bit shorter on the lighter trigger but I am not certain. I dream of owning the p30L in the 4.5lb. LEM match grade trigger variant.

the P30 with external safety lever will come.
I´ve heard HK made it for the police or military of Taiwan.

I too would like a P30 with an external safety. that's why I was such a fan of the USP series, that external frame mounted safety. carrying a weapon with no external safety is no big deal, but i personally like the added safety of an external safety. learning to take it off is not that big of a deal with proper training.
cheers

They won't issue a different weapon because Glock markets the hell out of their stuff and pushes it onto LEOs with low $$ amounts. There may even be better options out there for safety (how many NDs have happened with Glocks in LEO service?), ergonomics (can't beat a P30 for that can you?) etc.
For the most part, you use what the department tells you to use. Even if you can't shoot it worth a crap and it's uncomfortable for you. It's all about the $$.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. P3000 said exactly what I wanted to hear :D
Of course the timeliness of when it might be available to us here in the states would be the next worry . . .
