View Full Version : Help in IDing a P2000
Today I picked up a lightly used 9mm P2000 (and a 2000SK) and the P2000 is confusing me. It appears to be a V3 configuration (DA/SA w/decocker) but has a European (propietary?) rail. It has an AB date code, and the plain brown cardboard box with original HK label dates the gun "01/02". The serial number is 116-00011X.
The rail is wrong for a US gun and my research shows that the V3 didn't become available until around 2005. What have I got here? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You have one of the very few REAL GPMs that made it into the U.S. Regardless of the B.S. letter HK sent with the U.S. models saying they were GPMs.
You'll have trouble finding mags for it (P2000US/USPC mags won't work) or a light that will fit.

Of course it was the 2000SK that came with three mags and the 2000 only one. Figures. I now have a new quest. Fortunately the light isn't an issue.
Thanks much for the info.
That leads to another question. As there were GPMs that weren't "real", did they take the same mags as my gun or the US P2000/USPC?
Thanks again for the info, it is greatly apprecaited and valued. Years ago I collected HK and there wasn't the Internet to get all of this great information. I'm constantly amazed at all of the knowledge out there now at my fingertips.
Note: based on knowing that the gun is a GPM I just did a search and have a good idea of what I'm dealing with here. I assume that the lettered GPMs take US/USPC mags.
Yes, the pseudo GPMs take the readily available P2000US/USPC mags.

+1, Congrats!

Danke!
The gun is in like new condition and I'm still deciding what to do with it. My tendency is to shoot a gun. It would be tempting to make the gun a safe queen, but I think that I must shoot it. Earlier this evening I was starting to hunt for a plinker P2000 in 9mm so I could save this one, and then I realized that I was being ridiculous as I already own one. I take good care of my things and I don't see why the gun shouldn't be enjoyed doing what it was made to do.
I hope that sounded convincing as I almost have myself convinced. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Anyone else think this thread is useless without pics? :-)
Seriously though, nice find, but I really would like to see some pics of the GPM.

Here's his pic: It's the one on the top. Notice the two notch rail as opposed to the continuous rail of the U.S. models and the USP Fullsized style trigger guard instead of the curved trigger guard.

There are pics. Click on the Imageshack link in the very first post.
Oops, sorry, P7M8 covered me on that one. Here's a photo of the box http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/633/img3720gl5.jpg
I'd also note that there is a magazine disconnect of sorts. If the gun is decocked and the magazine removed it locks up, but for the disconnect to come into play the gun must first be decocked.

Ming,
There aren't many of these in the country so you do have something nice. I had a LEM version of one that I sold to a friend/member. I know member "Bo" has one.

I think that it would all be easier for me if this was just a run-of-the-mill P2000. Shooting it or not wouldn't even be a question. But, I'm enough of a collector and have enough of the collector's mentality that the issue is raised.
The thing that really makes me want to shoot the gun is the trigger. I like the LEM trigger of my P2000SK (or at least I think I will) but the added decocker of the GPM adds a carry option that I really like. I wish my SK had that decocker.

I know how you feel. I used to be like that then I realized what was the point in having guns that I didn't shoot so I got rid of all of my safe-queens.

I agree with that 100%. I've decided that the gun will be shot. Its rarity will only add to the enjoyment. If someone offered to buy it that would be one thing, and then they could turn it into a safe queen, but I won't relegate it to a dark corner in my gun vault.

Hello Ming!
I think it´s the right idea to shoot your P2000. It might be rare in the USA, but it´s just a standard P2000 in germany and there are enough of them here. By the way...there is a railadapter available from Brügger und Thomet for your german framed P2000.
Cheers,

Thanks for that info! While I generally don't use lights I may well acquire the adapter just to have it in case my tastes change.
How is the supply of mags for the gun in Europe?
I think that one thing that bothers me about the rarity thing is how they came about becoming rare with the Brady Ban nonsense being at the root of it. Anything to do with that dim period leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
As to the gun itself, I do like the configuration of the handguard better as well as the aesthetics of the European rail, especially considering I'm not a big fan of lights and lazers. It seems like everything gets a rail these days. If find myself buying old pre-rail guns, especially Sigs which will never look right to me railed.
Since the ban has gone I wonder how difficult it would be to get someone to import a few of those mags?

If any of our German members can get a few mags for this gun that Ming has, I would appreciate it if they would get in touch with me. Ming is a good friend and I will make the effort worth the trouble!

I thank you for that!
Having a gun with only one mag always makes me nervous.

Well, you can just go into any gun-store and buy some. They aren´t very cheap though.
One of the online-stores that I know and that will ship internationally for example is Triebel (http://triebel-shop.com/index.php?currency=USD&cPath=236_237&sort=3a&filter_id=102).
Another store would be the big chain Frankonia (http://www.frankonia.de/shop//_/bid/1422/sindex/3/cid/1613/tf/square/productdetail.html).
I´ll take a look around on some of the german gun-store sites and see if I can find them cheaper somewhere. If not I would recomment Triebel.

Thanks! Either Triebel or Frankonia would be fine. $85 plus shipping is just fine. I'd hate to tell you what I once paid for a Steyr GB mag.
