I've got about 1,200 rounds through my P2K9. I usually shoot 100 rounds per session. I clean it after every session.

The last two or three times I've cleaned it I've noticed a half dozen or so very tiny gold/brass colored flecks on the interior of the receiver, back by the hammer. I've never noticed this on my USPf9 but I haven't shot it as much either.

I'm guessing that these flecks are from the casings (I'm shooting WWB Value Pack 115 gr. FMJ exclusively).

Is this common or is it a sign of something bad about to happen?

Perfectly normal. The aggressive extractor is pulling of small pieces of brass from around the rim of the case and throwing them into the action. My uncles P2k does the same thing when shooting WWB. As long as your cleaning after every range trip like myself it should be a complete non-issue.
