Looking at USP tactical --deciding 40 or 45

I'm sure this is all a matter of opinion. I have both USP's and Tac's in .40 and .45. I personally like shooting my .45's better, but I don't think accuracy with either one is an issue with me. If it were me, I'd base my decision to purchase on which caliber serves you best. Namely ammo cost, recoil, stopping power, etc. My $.02.

Same either way in my experience owning a 40 and shooting the 45 quite a bit since a friend has one. The recoil is totally different, but the results are the same.

I've got a USP .40 full size and an HK45 full size. Both weapons are way more accurate than I am but they do shoot a bit differently. And when I say that, I mean different in terms of recoil only. The .40 is a bit snappier than the .45, but still very controllable.

I wouldn't say I am better with one over the other, but I'm getting better with both as I get more and more trigger time.

Accuracy should be the same between the 40 and the 45. The differences between the two rounds occur AFTER the bullet has left the barrel.

They should be about the same. I personally like the 45 better. The recoil is slower and smoother.

I prefer the slower, pushier recoil of the .45 to the snappier feel of the .40. Also, if you are considering a suppressor I think the .45 is better suited to noise suppression.

I was way more accurate with a .45 than my .40, and more accurate with my 9mm than my .40 but not as accurate as my .45...

I would say:

HK45 Most Accurate
HK P30 Second Most Accurate
Glock 22 Third most Accurate

I attribute the glock being third for 2 reasons. 1 The trigger, lets face it I am more accurate shooting single action than the glock action, not to mention I would pull the glock inappropriately because of the trigger (at least I think cause of the trigger). And 2 I have learned to shoot a LOT more since owning the glock. I am in more of a rhythm and concentrate more on the fundamentals every round.

I attribute the difference between the HK45 and the P30 to the trigger. I am getting more refined and I can control and concentrate and work with the trigger on the HK45 easier than I can on the P30. The HK45 trigger is smooth all the way through both SA and DA pull, where the P30 has a noticeable 'break' where it releases the hammer. I attribute my difference in between shooting the guns not to the actual production of each pistol, just an easily changeable part of the pistol. The Trigger. I plan on eliminating the differences when HK starts throwing LEM's in them as I want the light pull LEM in both my pistols.

That being said, I would still buy a glock again. I'm sure I'll end up with a glock 30 eventually.

I did shoot the glock 17 better than the 22 also. I attribute that to recoil characteristics. I was a new shooter and I anticipated the .40 caliber more than I did the 9mm. After shooting a .40 shooting a 9 right afterwards out of pretty much the same gun reminds me of shooting a .22!

can you elaborate on that...about the .45 being a better suppressor host?

The .45 is a slower bullet than the .40. It will be more likely to be subsonic, although a heavy .40 will be subsonic as well.
