Just got a 45C, have put around 500 rounds through it already, love the weapon. Stripped it down the other day to clean it a little, and it got me thinking.

My right side slide release has a little bit of free movement, it can rattle a tiny bit. Its not a huge issue. My question is this: is the right hand slide release absolutely necessary for the weapon to operate in a normal fashion?

I didnt want to strip the weapon, and put the weapon back together sans the right hand slide release and somehow screw up my gun just to see if it will function normally without it.

Stupid question I know, bear with me, im fairly new to HKs.

Thanks

The release lever on the right side of the weapon is necessary because the left side lever with the bar has to lock into it. It may/does rattle slightly, but it doesn't affect the weapon's function in any way.

Mine has a little bit of play, too. No adverse effects.

I disagree. It does not need the piece on the right side to stay put.

Try it and see, it looks like it actually locks into it with some teeth (like a gear).

Clean your weapon more often! :59:

No that doesn't have anything to do with the slide release.

I dont think it would be a problem to remove it. The USP release is held in merely by the slide and the teeth mentioned are just so the right side one can actuate the actual slide release, and it appears the HK45s release is held in the same way as the USPs
