I have a A grade p7 from CDnn , I was just wondering if it is normal for the piston to rattle around in the cylinder. Or if maybe the piston or cylinder is a little worn. Also wondering what is the most rounds any of you guys have put through your p7 without any major malfunction or breaks. This P7 is such a favorite of mine Im scared to shoot it in fear I might break something. I am glad to report that I did get ahold of Jeff at HK today and he assured me they have spare parts and Hk will produce the parts for another ten years.

The P7 should not rattle. It sounds like you may be missing the piston plunger spring which goes in the forward end of the piston. It's part number 18 in my manual.

I picked up a grade A from CDNN a couple weeks ago and had about 40 rounds through it before it locked up. I'll admit I was using reloads, and blame the round...NOT the gun. The case bulged in the chamber to the point the slide wouldn't lock all the way forward and refused to budge. Paid a local shop to clear the round. I buy guns to shoot and have fun with, but just keep it clean and lubed (and use factory ammo) and it will last a long time.

Depending on the use of the P7 the spring or the pin may be bad. It is very rare for the pin to go but it happens sometimes.
Item Part # Id#
Piston retaining pin DIN1481-1 x 6 929899
Piston locking spring 9224-20.03 221895
Bolt compression 9225-30.03 222478
These replace the plunger parts internally. If you are ordering parts it may be a good idea to order the last item....
Piston locking pin 3 x 12 DIN 7344 928333
Send a note to BigBore and he will confirm this is the way to go...

Im not being sarcastic but arent the grade As supposed tgo be graded on internals. Thiis really pisses me off if they sent me a grade A with a missing spring. Also is there an online schematic that i can look at to see what spring you are talking about and how it goes in

Is this something that happens regularly, and is something I could fix myself. Is it possible that the piston itself is worn out and there is too muh clearance around it

What kind of ammo where you using?
I had an issue once when I was using some ball ammo.
I have always run FMJ ammo after that & have never had another issue.

How long have you had it? I'd give CDNN a call and see what they say. I doubt they carry parts for them, but if those parts are hard to find, I'd see if I couldn't send it back and exchange it for one that has all the parts. Some of those P7 parts are made of unobtanium.

There are two versions of mounting the piston to the slide. One has the spring, plunger, and plunger retaining spring, and the other version just has the spring. I'm pretty sure the spring is the same in both versions although Numrich has it listed with different part numbers. There is a thread on the other forum which details what I went through in correcting this problem, and it contains a link to some excellent pictures by INSOC which show the difference between the pistons.

115 grain FMJ reloads from Cloverleaf Reloading. I see them at the Iowa gunshows, and their ammo prices are what I used to pay for WWB. I've never had a problem with their .45ACP in my USPs, so I was a bit disappointed by this one round. I know the risk of shooting reloads, but factory ammo is so damned expensive these days. 2 years ago WWB 9mm was .12/rd and .45ACP was .19/rd. Now the stuff is .19 and .42 respectively...I need to get into my own reloading.
