P2kSK with X-Grip = P2k. Just go and try that?

Am I mistaken in that X-grip is no longer in business? Did I read that somewhere on this forum? If so, what is the alternative?

For me, the P2000sk with the X-Grip = three finger grip, without = two finger grip. Try the grip on a P2000 or USPc that will give you a good idea. FWIW I have large hands.

I can actually get all of my fingers on the P2000sk without the extension. Am I the only one?

I picked up my x grip from HK-USA. They were about 15.00 I think. It makes it real nice if your trying to get some range time with the p2k 12 rounders. But if your buying it so you can carry it with the p2k mags just stick with the p2k

I own a p2000sk and to be honest, have regretted it since my first time out on the range. I love HKs...I think they truly are some of the finest firearms made..period. And I've shot a number of different models.
So when I finally made the decision to buy a subcompact, I went with the HK p2000sk. I remember standing at the gun counter and debating...do I really need a sub-compact in a state that doesn't allow concealed carry anyway (NJ)? But, because I didn't own any subcompacts, and I kinda like to have lots of different types of guns, I bought it.
Anyway...long story short...it just never felt comfortable...in my hand or on the range. And the .40 cal is a bit rough..9mm would've made it a little easier on my hand. Nonetheless, I tried to see if I could make a trade, but the dealers are real scum bags...worse than car dealers. I paid over 900 bucks for this gun, and they wanted to give me $350...after only 2 or 3 times out on the range (maximum of 200 rounds put through the gun). That's when I decided, I'm keeping it...but I searched high and low to find an alternative to help with the uncomfortable grip. That's when I saw some posts here about the X-grip. So I bought two full size p2000 mags and 2 x-grips. When I put them on, I was thrilled...they totally changed the feel of the gun. No more did I want to get rid of it. Actually, I now felt like I had a new favorite gun.
But now here's the rub. I've taken it to the range a few times now...and each time, the mag (with the x-grip) tends to drop out while I'm shooting. It's very disheartening. I really want to love this gun. But this kind of thing happening makes it pretty hard to trust it...especially if I was in a pinch. And as far as on the range, the mag dropping out during practice drills, just makes it very unstable/unusable.
I guess what I'd like to know is, are any of you experiencing this problem as well?...and if so, have you been able to find a remedy? Once again...I REALLY want to love this gun. And when I hold it, and look at it (with the X-grips on) I really do love it. But I get kinda bummed out thinking about the failures to feed/mags dropping out mid-fire.
Any input is greatly appreciated. I'm certainly not going to trade this gun with the kind of markdown they're giving me...but at the same time I could think of at least 5 other sub-compacts that I've shot that were way more comfortable, and don't have a problem with magazines falling out.
I'll hope to hear if anyone else is experiencing this.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Todd

We at HKpro need to nicely contact Pearce Grips and have them make a +1 .40 Cal./+2 9mm grip extender like the ones for the Glock subcompacts.

A 12+1 P2000sk in 9mm would be perfect because it would still be smaller than the X-Grip, which I find doesn't stay in place on the mag when out of the gun. It would also give you a 10+1 gun in .40 Cal.

I talked to a nice guy there named Lane last year about it. They make products in response to market demand. Let them know you want one of their products and they should come through.

I'd call them because last few e-mails have not gone through.

You should send that back to HK. Mags should not drop out.

Are you making sure the mags. are locking properly into the gun when using the X-grip? It sounds to me like the mags. are not locking into the mag. catch causing them to drop out when you fire the gun.

Todd:

You are right to refuse an offer of $350 trade. Have you thought of selling it on this board??

I just happily paid $800 for a 9mm SK from an HKPRO member. Get that thing in someone's hands that can carry it!!

I wouldn't be thrilled with mine as.a pure range gun... But, it's a joy to carry!

Best,

You can easily modify a Pearce PG-26 grip extension to work on the P2KSK with a drill & X-acto. It adds ~3/8" to the front of the grip over the standard HK extended mag. It doesn't add any height to the back of the mag. There was a thread on this a year or so ago.

It fits my arthritic pinkies very well, far better than the standard HK extended mag.

Yes..of course. They're locked in...that's the problem. If I use the standard 9 round sk mags, they stay in place with no problem. It's almost as if the x-grip is putting pressure on the magazine. Anyone who has used them knows they don't exactly stay in place. They tend to ride up the magazine. It is this that I think is causing the mags to not stay in place while firing.

Regarding the comment about selling the gun here...Believe me..I thought of it. However, as I've collected more and more guns, I've kinda come to the conclusion that I will never sell one that I bought. Almost like I feel obligated to keep it. Silly..maybe. But I'll be honest...I had thought about selling other guns in the past as well...then I'll take them to the range and fall in love with them all over again. It hasn't happened with the SK...yet..but I'm hopeful. I totally think a Pearce solution would be perfect...as I use them on my Glocks, and they work wonders.

Now to totally take this off the subject...any of you folks from the central Jersey area. They just closed down the range (Rays Sport Shop) that I've been shooting at for the last 10 years, and I don't know of another in the area. If any of you have a suggestion I'd love to hear it.

Anyway..thanks for the replies.

+1 the mags should not fall out. I have two 13rd mags with the xgrip and two regular mags and they all stay in place. I love the gun and could not be happier with it. I use the small mags when using the gun for CCW and keep the other mags for range use, or in a bag for back ups. I think being able to make the handle larger or smaller is a pretty unique and cool feature.

I couldn't agree more...about both statements. I may just do that (i.e. contact HK and send it to them).

As far as the x-grip...I remember specifically, before the x-grips came out, someone on this forum created their own homemade x-grip...and I thought, if some company came out with this, it would totally change my opinion of this gun. So, I came back a year later and saw someone posting the x-grip...I was immediately online purchasing two of them (with the full size mags). When I first put them on, and held the gun in my hand, I was absolutely thrilled. I said, "this is the gun I wanted...it's a great sub-compact...and now I've got two guns for the price of one"...So once again, you can imagine my disappointment when I took it to the range and the gun would jam/mag start to drop. I purchased the SK and almost from day one wished I bought the standard p2000. With the x-grip I have the best of both worlds. Now if I could just get the thing to work right :(

Thanks again for the replies. I think I'm going to contact HK about the mags slipping

Thanks for the good idea Freedom Fighter. However, I work as a police officer and my dept. does not allow modifications. They allow the Pearce Grips on Glocks, but if we go filing and drilling on things it is a policy no no.

NightFighter,

All you are altering is: 1. Trimming the plastic front of the PG-26 baseplate with an X-acto, and 2. Drilling a hole in the bottom of the PG-26 to align with the magazine spring locking plate.

There is no alteration to the magazine or receiver whatsoever, just to the PG-26. This is not a Plus 1 extension; it doesn't increase capacity, but it sure makes it more comfortable if you have larger hands....or arthritic pinkies ;) The PG-26 works on the 9mm P2KSK I don't know if it works on the .40. It does not increase capacity.

Pearce also makes a PG-26XL as well: http://www.pearcegrip.com/glock26XL.htm

I really hope you can use it on your job; you'll enjoy the pistol more.

hopefully pearce will make adapters for the p2000 series. i still dont understand how a glock 27 can have an 11 round .40 cal magazine that is the same size as the 9 round factory mag but hk only can fit 9 rounds. if they made an 11 round magazine the same size as the factory mags then we wouldnt need xgrips or pearce extenders. as much as i love my hk p2000sk, a glock 27 kicks its butt in size, weight, and mag capacity.

Here is a picture of the modified Pierce grip I made. It's not perfect, but very funcitonal. I think with the proper tools I could do a better job.
