I was going to get a 40 or 9 as they are a little cheaper to shoot than my USPf 45. They are having a 12 month same as cash at the local gun store and I was wanting some advice on which one to get. The P2000 is in 40 and obviously the P30 is in 9. These won't be used for CCW, just something to shoot and at most, maybe home defense, but I have a SB shotgun and my 45 for that. I like the P2000 a little better and the P30 is about 100 bucks more at the gunstore. Thanks for the opinions. I'm getting excited about adding to my HK collection.

P30, hands down - better ergonomics.

P30, hands down. It has the option of being kept in Condition 1 and has better ergonomics.

Condition 1 = cocked and locked?
The P30 has no external safety, but a decocker right?

Am I wrong?

No, you're 100% correct. I guess I had the CR^2S (tm) on the brain. D'oh.

I used to own a P2000SK in 40 and currently own a P30. Just today, another forum member and myself put 200 rounds through my P30 and about 275 rounds through his P2000v2 .40. Both guns are so much fun to shoot, but the 9mm round coupled with the incredible ergonomics of the P30 make it a very easy-shooting pistol. If I were to choose with the criteria you've laid out, it would be the P30.

P2K in 40. Better caliber and a great gun for CCW. Or get the CDNN deal and two barrels, 40 and 357 Sig.

If you can shoot, a 9mm is fine with quality SD ammo.

I was contemplating the same decision as you. I went the P30 route after renting a p2000sk and shooting a P30. My decision was based off of looking for primarily a range gun first, self-defense second.

I borrowed/rented about 10-15 different guns before I chose the P30. For my hands the P30 felt just right. I immediately shot quite well with it. Being left handed added an additional challenge that is well supported by H&K. A good friend of mine who has very strong opinions on hand guns, picked up the P30 fired 15 rounds through it, smiled and said this a really expletive nice gun. When mine came in he said the same thing again. It seems to have that effect on those who pick it up.

After about a month of ownership, I could not be happier with it. I have about 800 rounds through it, and I have not had a single failure on the range. It has functioned absolutely perfect for me.

If it is more of a range gun, then 9mm will be cheaper to shoot than the 40.

My two cents, take it for what it is worth. :)

My only recommendation is, if you have not done so, is to shoot them side by side if possible, hopefully only one will say take me home. If both say take me home then I apologize in advance to your bank account.

Good luck with your decision.

Plastic guns + .40 = some nasty recoil.
