Well last week I picked up a HK45C and then this week my P30 that had been on order since April finally came in. So last week Thursday I picked up the .45 brought it home and cleaned it. Friday I took it out to the range. I haven't shot a pistol in at least 10 years. It felt good and I didn't have any trouble with the gun. Then this week I get the call I have been waiting for... My P30 is in. So I pick it up Friday and bring it home to clean. Saturday (today) I go with a friend to the range to test out the P30 and of course I bring the .45 with me also.

I shoot a few mags through the .45 and everything is great. Now the moment I have been waiting for. The P30 just feels so right. The dealer talked me into Remington UMC 115gr for the P30. The first shot was FTE stovepipe and the second and the third...etc etc.... The gun just would not eject the empty.

I tried both mags both did the same thing. I don't think I got one shell in the first 50 rounds to eject clean. My buddy had some winchester 124gr rounds with him. I tried them and about 50% ejected fine the others FTE. He also had some 147gr SXT's with him we loaded up the mag and they all ejected fine... but the slide didn't stay open on the last shot.

Went back to the 115gr UMC and back to FTE again. The HK45C is an awesome gun but I love the feel of the P30. I have my CCW class next Saturday and I wanted to use the P30 but I don't want to have to fix FTE's while in the class. Any other 115gr ammo out there that would be any better than Remington UMC in this gun?

Remington UMC is crap. I'd go with Winchester white box for practice shooting. 100 round value packs are about 18-19 bucks around here. Too bad about all the FTE, hopefully it'll work itself out.

This is making me think twice about the P30. A pistol in that price range should not have problem with any ammo :18:

Rem. UMC is the worst ammo besides Wolf, do not use it.

I never sorted out the issues with my P30. It is up for sale in the local shop. It had FTFs & stovepipes at the same time. Mag springs were changed out & it did not improve. I REALLY hated parting with it, best feeling & lightest recoiling 9mm have ever had......

I had some trouble at first with my P30 as did several other posters over the months. I was advised to use some hotter ammo for a "break-in" period which I did with Fiocchi. I think I used two boxes. From then on, never a problem. The gun has many rounds through it now and I really love this gun. Even the weaker ammo that didn't always function properly at first, Blazer Brass, does fine now although the ejected rounds come back on my hat bill weakly instead of to the side and rear as does the WWB, Federal, and others. I am so glad I didn't jump ship before allowing some time to get to know the gun.

I just took my new p30 out to the range for the first time and it cycled through 200 rounds of WWB without a problem. For whatever reason, the p30 has a history of not liking Rem-UMC when it is new, but appears to eat everything else very well. As others have suggested, try something else for a couple of hundred rounds and everything should sort itself out...

I put UMC through my P30 when brand new. I cleaned it and put 250 rounds through it. I had one FTE, and over 1000 rounds later, that remains my only failure.

Thanks guys...
I'll pick up some hotter ammo and run as much through as I need to break this thing in. I don't want to give up on it as it just feels so right in my hand.
If I don't get time between now and Saturday (CCW Class) I'm just going to use the .45 for the class.

I have a very similar post. I got my new P30 on Tuesday. Put 50 rounds through it right when I picked it up without cleaning. It jammed alot. The ammo was garbage too (Independence reloads). Lots and lots of FTE's. Well, I tried some Speer Lawman and it functioned 100%. Then I went back this morning with 250 rounds of Winchester White Box. One FTE near the beginning. The gun functioned flawlessly since. No jams or any problems. In terms of your slide not locking open on the last round, check your grip. I had that same problem too. If you're using the two thumbs forward grip, it's likely that you're pushing the extended slide lock down so it's not locking open. Good luck. I'm feeling much better after today's range session. 250 or so more rounds and I think I'll be good with this one. I really hope it doesn't FTE again. Only happened once near the beginning this time so I'm confident that the gun is being broken in.

I've used WWB and Magtech in both my P30's and HK 45's and never had an issue with either. WWB is cheap, as far as cheap goes these days for ammo, at Wal-Mart.

my wife got a FTE on her first shot with her new P30. I believe there was a little bit of limp wristing with it since she'd never shot that gun before. The ramaining 99 shots went off with no problems.

only downside to WWB is that you are going to have to clean the gun big time after using. man, that stuff gets all over the outside of the gun too

I have just over 1000 rounds through my P30, half of which was UMC the other half WWB. I never had any kind of malfunction. These guns should eat any ammo.

I made it back to the range today. I picked up a few boxes of WWB from Wal-mart the other day and wanted to see if it makes a difference so I can use my P30 in my CCW class Saturday.
Well I ran 100 rounds of WWB through the P30 without a problem.
I also tried to run some more Remington UMC through and it.... FTE at least twice every clip. I will be using the P30 for the class with WWB ammo. Still not happy it wont shoot the Remington but I guess it doesn't matter as I will never purchase them again. I still have a new box of the crap that I may just pitch in the trash.

A couple thoughts on the matter...

I agree with some previous posters that UMC is substandard ammo. It's been known to be problematic with other pistols besides the P30. Go with another brand of ammo initially, until you get a few rounds down range.

Another thing to try...

Get some polymer safe GunScrubber, or even some pressurized WD-40 and spray the extractor channel. Using a toothbrush handle or similar non marring tool, depress the rear of the extractor in order to exercise the extractor, IN and OUT several times. Apply some oil to the extractor channel and use a pressurized air can to blow out the excess. You'd be surprised to see how much black crud will run out of the extractor channel.

I suspect some of the shipping grease that HK uses could be congealing to the point that it binds the extractor and prevents optimum function. A good initial cleaning in this area can't hurt a thing and may very well fix your problem once and for all.

Good Luck!

This is exactly what my buddy did with his P30 when he first got it and had problems. Never had a problem since.

I don't know if this fixed my problem or not but the gun seems to be fine now.
I have not tried to run any more Remington through it sense cleaning the extractor but I did run another 100 rounds of WWB through it and it performed great. I will try to get out and run my last box of Remington UMC through it soon. I kind of expect it to perform fine now.
Thank you for the extractor cleaning advice.

I had heartache with a new P2000 9mm the first time out when I used 100 rounds of UMC 115 grain FMJ. Many replied back and told me to ditch the UMC because it was a weak load, and to use something other than it (and Wolf ammo, of course). I've run various brands through it since then and it's been 100%. I haven't had any other FTE's which were the primary malfunction I saw the first time.

I have also made a minor adjustment on my grip, which has seemed to help as I, too, had problems with the slide locking back on an empty mag. I shoot thumbs forward and no longer rest my thumb on the slide stop, but rather on my support hand. No lock back problems since then.

P30's next on the list. I can't wait.

I just remembered I put a few boxes of Blazer aluminum through one of my P30's which was a pretty weak round. Ejected all over the place but fed fine. There's a pretty fair amount of thick grease on these new and they need to be cleaned, scrubbed, and lubed well before shooting.

I have to disagree with UMC being substandard ammo. I have always used UMC in my guns, USPf 45, Beretta 92 9mm, Walther P99 40s&w. I've never had any issues with any of my guns, and I've always found the UMC to be cleaner than the WWB. The P30 should eat UMC all day long, let us know what happens when you shoot that last box since cleaning your extractor.
Anyone ever notice UMC bullet is a bit shorter than WWB in 9mm
