What are the "maximum rounds" legally allowed in a magazine in the State of California. For rifle and/or handguns. I know what it is, but I am trying to buy some magazine out of state for my HK SL7 and the seller thinks it is something different that what the law is, so, I thought this thread may help convince him.
Any independent links for him to look at would help.
Thanks for answering this question, but I am unable to provide him links (even sent him the CA DOJ link) that will allow him to make an informed decision.

After 2000, 10 rounds max. However, you may import any and all hi-cap magazine components (including the mag body) as repair parts for mags legally owned before 2000, but it would be illegal to use these replacement parts to manufacture new hi-cap magazines. One could also have magazine parts kits (for mags NOT owned before 2000) that are assembled into mags when traveling out of state, and then disassembled into parts again before returning to California. As long as they are not used to manufacture new mags in California, it is legal, there's nothing in the penal code stating otherwise.
You can also legally use hi-cap mags you legally owned prior to 2000 in new firearms, i.e. 20 round mags in a new M1A, or 15 round mags in a new Beretta 92. A common misconception is that you can only use 10 round mags in firearms bought after 2000 in CA. There is nothing in the penal code to support this whatsoever. Many people (myself included) bought a huge amount of mags before 2000,many for guns we didnt even own yet, for this reason.
Gene Hoffman's magazine memo: http://www.hoffmang.com/firearms/DOJ-large-cap-magazines-2005-11-10.pdf
This pretty much sums it up, if a seller doesnt want to sell you magazine parts after reading the DOJ memo, it's his problem. Find another seller, there are plenty out there that will take your money.
Try Lance at LAK Supply. He sells complete disassembled new magazine parts kits to Californians at a reasonable price. If he doesn't have it, he can get it for you. http://laksupply.com
Arent the SL7 mags 10 round anyway??

Thanks for you posts, the Seller is now aware of the law and will ship the 10 rounders for my rifle. Thanks again.
Yes the SL7 are 10 rounders but the seller thought that 9 rounds was maximum in CA. Problem resolved. Thanks for the links as well.

1 st time post. ????
I would like to know if you already have a HK 45 in California is it
leagal to have? I have found two used ones for sale at gun stores.
Both seem to have been owned by a police person and were
trying to sell them at about twice the price of a new one.
I live in Redwood City and would also like to know about any shooting
ranges some where areound San. F. or south?
Thank You

Yes getting it through LE is the only way unless someone moves here with one from out of state. Prices on the HK 45 have been dropping in CA you can get one now for $1,250.00 to $1,400.00.
They are very nice, I like mine better than the USP. Smmoother trigger, not as boxy and the o-ring barrel, very nice.

There's also the intra-familial gift exception to the Roster. Let's not give those people in Sacramento any more ground than they've already taken... ;)

That LAK sounds pretty sweet, what a idea!
Keep in mind ordering the magazine parts needs to be done to repair your existing hicap mags. Manufacturing new hi-caps out of those kits is illegal....
