Well with some searching on here you can find out that you might be able to get a civilian version, with a different name (MR223? MR308?), MAYBE in mid 2009.

HK Inc has not set any date or pricing for the MR223 (civilian HK416). It is also unknown at this time whether the MR308 will ever make it into production.

It's funny, this time last year I thought I would never be able to own an HK417/417. Now this year im hoping to have a HK416/417 (MR223/308) by this time next year!!!!!!! :-)

The longer it takes....the more I see the window of opportunity for the MR223 or whatever you call it closing.
I would recommend biting the bullet and purchasing an HK416 upper. Even those are getting extremely difficult to find compared to 6 months ago.

Unbelievable that a company could throw away guaranteed money like this.
Am I the only person who believes that a civilian model HK 416/417 proposedly built by Wilcox is conjecture at this point?
If HK or Wilcox hasn't made any official statements for a domestic model then why all the hype? I don't get it.
I am confused as to why so many believe that this thing is for sure? And why the "release" date conviently keeps moving to the right???

Well I don't know guns as well as some here but I do know business. Even if HK banked on huge demand for the MR223 and produced a large number of them, they take a huge risk in having millions and millions in unsold inventory if all the laws change Jan '09. They could have taken the risk in the fall of '04 because they knew there was a good chance nothing would change in the next 4 years. Now....???????

I've seen HK416 10.5" uppers ranging from $3k to $4K on different gun boards and etc...
Try Gunbroker.com, The Equipment Exchange over at AR15.com, or the EE here at HKpro. Those are probably the big 3 right now and offer the most chances. "Sturm" would be good too.
Hope this helps,

I'm tired of HK treating civilians as second class customers. I'm gonna go with the Bushmaster ACR(Magpul Masada).

i want this thing to come just as much as anyone but since HK hasnt opened a factory in the US or formed a partnership with any company for the production of other rifles such as (g36, ump, hk94 or sp89) in semi form im not going to start holding my breath now....

I think the best thing to do is just be patient and keep searching. Make it a daily task to look on gunbroker, here, AR15.com, and sturmgewehr. Hell, I'm having problems finding 416 parts now. I'm looking for a folding front sight. By the way, for those of you who have one, how does the folding front sight go in? Does it just screw in or does it go in another way?

the front folding sight is held in by a pin and locking clip on the piston block assembly. the front folding sight folds up or down by a spring loaded locking tab.

HK has infact formed a partnership with Wilcox for domestic US HK production.
HK has stated that they no longer have the machining and parts needed to produce the 90x series.
HK currently makes the semi-auto versions of the G36, and UMP in the SL8, and USC.

Cueist,
Can you educate me as to the location of an official statement that HK and Wilcox are going to build a semi-auto HK 416 for civilian consumption?
I can't seem to find any official word that this is the case.

There's been no official (PUBLIC) statement by HK. I believe the biggest reason for this is, as the original announcement from HKPRO mentioned, because they're trying to get break the habit of giving dates for products far in advance of their availability.

We all were upset when we couldn't get a date for the HK45 And HK45c, But they came in time. HK kept pushing the dates back and no one was happy when they kept getting pushed back. So I agree with Tspeis!
Not to start a flame war; but I would call the future availability of an domesticly produced Hk 416 at this point "presumption" and "conjecture" until an "OFFICIAL" statement has been made. Even then, only time will tell. The availability of a handgun (HK45/45C) and the production of a rifle that can't be imported aren't the same beast in my mind.
I believe there is a lot of wishful thinking on the internet at this point,
but I guess we will all have to wait and see.
I would not hold my breathe however.

True, but if they were manufactured before the ban, would they not be considered pre-ban and still be able to be sold?
I guess it would really depend on the wording of any new legislature.

HK does infact still produce the MP5. They just do not produce any of the 90x series anymore.

Who knows? If there's a domestic HK plant making civilian HKs, a US civilian legal G36 wouldn't be completely out of the question. However, I kind of doubt it. They'd have to tool up and have all new machinery I would think. Some people may think that the tactical rifle market in America is really really small. I'm not so sure though.....I think lots and lots and lots of people at least have AR15s. While I doubt any civie G36 or 416 could ever hope to eclipse the standard CAR15 in sales, they certainly might be able to grab a piece of the pie.
