View Full Version : P30, is it worth owning?

So I've been shooting my 9mm USP ad two P7 series pistols for quite a few years now and really enjoy them. They're accurate and utterly reliable so why would I be better off buying the P30 other than just to have it? Trying to justify spending a little over $700 I suppose when I could buy a 9mm USPc NIB for around 550.

While I don't own one, I have held one. If there's a single weapon that feels better in the hand than my HK45, it was that P30. It must be touched to be believed.
Personally, for the length of time that a person owns a firearm, that extra $150 seems well spent. It also has a larger magazine, ambi controls, night sights, and a Picatinny rail.
If I were allowed to have one here, I'd already own one.

does the p30 have adjustable sights?

No the P30 has the fixed luminescent sights. Adjustable sights are currently not available for the P30 or other new HK's (HK45,HK45c).
The only current aftermarket nightsight option are Heinie sights or sending in your slide to Tooltech for trijicon inserts.

I like my P30 better than any of my USPc's. If you're ever over here, you're welcome to shoot mine. ;)

I had a USPC in .40, and now I have a P30. The P30 grip is much nicer. It fits your fingers realy well, and has interchangeable panels. The pistol is also much thinner, and easier to carry IWB.

I don't own one but I've put about 500 rounds through a P30. You certainly can't argue with the comfort of the grip, and the accuracy is as good as any. On the other hand, it's not very good looking IMO, and you don't get the options that come with the compact. The P30 is also not CCW friendly.
Granted, I'm partial to the compact since I own 4 of them and no other models, but the compact just seems to offer more besides a better price.
Just one opinion;

I can't imagine not owning one, great shooter, great egros, awesome reliability. After todays range session I have 1500 rounds shot with out a hitch.

The P30 works fine for CCW. You just should have some type of undershirt between the grip and your skin. Other than that, it's fine.

I like mine. The P30 fits my hand well, and is plenty accurate. The only thing that would make it better IMHO, would be a factory installed LEM.

I always wear a t-shirt when I carry. Chaffing isn't the issue, I just think the P30 is a little large for easy concealment. Of course that's simply an opinion, since I've never actually carried one. I imagine it would work quite well in a shoulder rig.

i bought one. my first NEW gun purchase and my first HK. I bought it as a fun gun to use at the range AND carry since I'm on a different budget. i thought about getting rid of it a couple times simply because of the size, and each time i do research and feel other pistols, NOTHING seems to have the same fit, comfort, leightweight, reliable, accurate, etc. for my taste in the same price range. i even have handled (however not shot) the P2k and USP (fullsize and compact), and although I wont argue that they are great guns, the others just dont have the same fit/feel/ergonomics. I think about selling/trading mine and then i shoot it and realize i'm an idiot. i hope to put an LEM in it once (if) they come out.

Carried IWB with a 15 degree or slightly higher cant angle, the P30 conceals just as well as a USPc. I have both and carry both with equal confidence.
A definite t shirt gun though, the grip is abrasive.

If you haven't already tried one, an Under armour type t shirt works great. I'm not sure if it's real or imagined, but it seems to allow a closer fit for the holster.

ARKAYTrue, but the grip will ruin any shirt it rubs against all day.

Just glancing back at the manual for the P30. I see the trigger pull weight in DA is 11.46lbs vs the P2000 which is 7.31lbs.
Anyone have any idea why there is such a large difference and why. Kind of makes me want to buy a P2000 for carry.

The DA pull should be the same for both guns. The 7.31lbs sounds like it is the LEM DAO trigger as that is too light for a fatory DA.

Just looked again and it's talking about the DA trigger. It's on pages 12-14 in the manual.

Yeah I just saw that. My bet is that it is another mistake in the manual by HK. I have shot a few V3 P2000's and the DA pull feels exactly like the P30.

Figured, but not having fired a P2000 in SA/DA I couldn't say for sure.
