Or, how I turned a Ruger P-95 into a HK and A Sig. Now just so nobody gets the wrong Idea, I did not make some hellacious deal. I did not walk into someone who had no Idea what they had.... it was more of a Parlay.
A little background....I "the Al Bundy of boats" sometimes have people ask me to help them sell thier old boat. At work I sell new boats only, but if one of my customers wants a little help moving a old boat, I pass along the info to people that aren't looking to buy new. I do this with the understanding that a little something for the "home team" may be in order, if I move the boat. It helps them and saves them the usual 10% brokerage fee. It also generates new sales as well, maybe not right then, but down the road. I have recieved "tips" as little as 100 bucks to as much 1,000.00, sometimes nothing, rare but it has happened.
Back to the story, 6 months ago I get a 300.00 tip I use that to buy a very nice P-95. It was a smooth transaction paid 250 lus transfer 280 total. Fast forward to a week ago, sell a used boat for a guy,he gives me a Penn International 30 on a nice stand-up fishing rod, another guy at work sees it offers me 450.00 for it, well I know the fun show is coming this weekend......SOLD for 450.00
I been drooling over HK USP .40's for awhile now so I decide to take said P-95
and my 450.00 and go HK hunting. Idea is to sell or trade P-95 add cash and leave with the object of my desire.
Get to the show stop at a table where a guy in a wheelchair has a sign on his back says "for sale USP .40 650.00".....nice, start talking to him. Guy whose table we are at sees the Ruger box under my arm asks "how much?" Three bills I say, he says stay here my son is looking for one of those. Now I start working on HK man,it's in good shape but older probably 95-96 maybe, I tell him whats bottom line.....500.00. Cool guys son shows up likes the Ruger 300 to me,200 of mine and now I got a HK.....and 250.00 cash left....Cool. Time to go as I am walkin out I spy several P-6 Sigs Hmmmm walk over he's asking 319.00 I ask will ya take 250.00 ? Naw he says, 275.00 and ya got a deal. 250 cash and 25 on the card, and I am walking out of the show Penniless with a HK and A Sig!
And that is how I Parlayed a Ruger and a Fishing Pole into a Sig and A HK
I am still smiling..............
While I really didn't get a smoking deal. I got what I wanted and more, both sellers got mostly what they wanted too. It may have been the best fun show ever!
